About

Authentic Lucky Worn Horseshoes Imported From Ireland

My Irish heritage is so important to me and I very much believe in the magic of The Emerald Isle and all things Irish. Horseshoes have been a symbol of good luck for hundreds of years and throughout many different cultures, especially horseshoes that have been worn. We like to say that, ALL horseshoes are lucky, but Irish horseshoes are the luckiest!

I have been so blessed to have dear friends in Co. Dublin, Ireland and among them a sixth generation blacksmith/farrier who forges, fits and collects these magical shoes as he works with many horses in various places throughout the gorgeous Irish countryside.

The shoes are shipped to me in large quantities by boat. They are rusted, dirty, coated with soil from the 'homeland' and some still have nails and horse hair still attached. I clean each shoe by hand with steel brushes and a special soaking solution before I paint and/or seal them with Rustoleum primer, paint and sealer. Every shoe is then numbered and shipped to you with a Certificate of Authenticity.

I wanted to bring these authentic shoes to the States to offer a little bit of Ireland's heritage and tradition making them a very special and unique gift to give or receive. Since each shoe is forged/fitted by an actual blacksmith, there are no two exactly the same. The art of blacksmithing can still be found in Ireland and is considered a very lucky trade to work with elemental fire and the magic of iron.

In Ireland, it's customary to give a horseshoe as a wedding gift so that the newly wed couple will always have good luck and fortune throughout their married life. Horseshoes in Ireland have been passed down through generations and Celtic brides are even known to carry a small horseshoe on their wedding day wrapped around their bridal bouquet. Horseshoes can be seen outside of houses above front doors and back doors and also inside of houses above entryways. There is a strong Irish belief that the shoes should be hung upright, like the letter 'U' to collect and store the luck inside. But, others believe that the shoe should be hung like an upside down letter 'U' so that the luck spills out and over anyone passing under it. In the end though, whichever way you decide to hang your lucky horseshoe will be just grand!
