A lifelong love affair with jewelry

I've been collecting vintage and antique everything pretty much my entire life. My dad sold antique furniture and used to take me with him on buying trips; he bought me a trunk filled with antique hats and accessories on one of our regular Thursday night outings (I think just to keep me occupied; auctions can take hours and seven year old girls are not known for their patience), and from there I was hooked. As I grew older, I taught myself to repair, refurbish, and reinvent both clothing and jewelry. Scouring flea markets and thrift stores for interesting bits and pieces became my favorite thing to do.

My mother was an artist and I followed her footsteps to art school, graduating with a BFA in Fashion Design. It seemed a natural progression. There have been so many twists and turns since then: a 10-year stint as a singer in a rock band, 6 months merchandising at a lifestyle and clothing store famous for its vintage and hand-crafted aesthetic (name begins with an A); 8 years as first-hand stitcher and corset maker for The Opera Co. of Philadelphia... some of this concurrent (I'm not THAT old) until I finally settled into styling for commercials, films, and TV.

Styling wardrobe and costume design kept me very aware of current trends and how closely designers pulled from vintage resources and inspiration; I was no exception as I'd always been moved by the craftsmanship and details of antique pieces.

I began designing fine jewelry with my friend and co-conspirator Lisa about 25 years ago for clients, friends, and myself using antique and vintage elements. I’d forage, she’d fix; it was the perfect partnership.

It hit me one day that I was having way more fun creating than I would ever have time to wear all the things we were making, and so The Eden Collective was born. I've spent a great deal of time researching vintage and antique modes, in fact I can honestly say most of my life. It's been part of my upbringing, my work, my livelihood and my passion. The stories I write about the pieces in the shop are as important to me as the photos in order to explain why these things are so special, why they exist at all. If you ever have any questions, or comments about anything you find in the shop I welcome your message.

Thank you for your time, I hope you've enjoyed it!

I have a BFA in design and a deep appreciation for "old stuff." Practically everything I own was found at a flea market, auction, thrift store or on the sidewalk. I made my first vintage jewelry purchase at age 7 and have been collecting ever since.

Welcome to The Eden Collective, where I hope you will find something to treasure for many years to come. We strive to offer excellent and thoughtful customer service so please feel free to message us with any questions you may have about the pieces in the shop.

We love to do custom work and can usually work within a 2-3 week turnaround depending on the item. Don't hesitate to ask if you have special requests regarding any of the original or repurposed designs. All of our handmade items are handmade by us, every component unless otherwise specified. We do our own sizing and alteration, including laser work, so we are able to accommodate most special requests.

I am passionate about jewelry and love to ferret out the reasons behind historical modes. The research and the stories you'll read in our descriptions are the result of years of reading about it, collecting it and asking questions of various experts in the field. We hope you'll enjoy!

We truly want you to be happy with your purchase. Buying jewelry online can be intimidating and we want to take the uncertainty out of it as much as possible.

Items may be returned for any reason as long as they are in their original condition, although resizing, engraving or alteration of any kind, done by us or another jeweler, renders the item final sale. A 5% restocking fee will apply to the refund of the original purchase price; shipping charges, if applicable, are non-refundable.

All layaways, made to order and custom orders are final sale. Fees assessed for sizing, engraving or alterations of any kind are non-refundable.

The following conditions apply to all returns:

1. Items must be returned in original condition as purchased. Alterations of any kind render the item final sale.

2. Buyer must notify us of intent to return within 3 calendar days of receipt of the item. Returns sent without notification cannot be accepted or refunded. After three calendar days of receipt, all items will be considered final sale.

3. Returns must be shipped back to us at buyer's cost within 7 calendar days of receipt and must be sent with tracking. Please send us the tracking information after you ship back to us. Insurance is highly recommended as items lost or damaged in transit cannot be refunded.

4. Please return the item in the original gift box sent and pack carefully to avoid damage.
We are happy to offer layaway. A payment plan can be arranged on purchases of $500.00 or more, with an initial deposit of 25% of the total cost and full payment to be made within 30 days.

Installments of 25% should be made in each of the three consecutive weeks that follow, unless another schedule is agreed upon, and once final payment has cleared the item will be shipped.

Payment not concluded within 30 days will negate the sale and any prior deposits will be forfeited unless other arrangements have been discussed.

Please be advised layaway installments are non-refundable and all layaway items are final sale.

Layaways are offered as a courtesy at our discretion and we reserve the right to refuse layaway requests.

Pennsylvania residents will be assessed the state sales tax of 6%.

Custom work, including engraving and sizing requests, requires payment in full before work can be completed. Engraving services requires purchase of the item to be engraved and payment of the engraving fee before the work can be completed.

Sketches, designs and wax-work models for custom pieces require a 25% non-refundable deposit of the estimated fee for completed work before they can be rendered.

We do offer sizing on rings and alteration on bracelet and necklace lengths for an additional fee, but once items have been sized, customized in any way or engraved they are not returnable. Please be certain of your purchase before requesting any customization.

Sizing requests and enquiries must be made before purchase. Sizing requires turnaround time and carries a fee. We reserve the right to cancel purchases with sizing requests attached that have not been discussed prior to the sale.

Cancellations will only be honored on in stock items, as long as the item has not yet shipped.
Standard US shipping is always free! All items are shipped with tracking and insurance, usually within 48 hours of payment. Upgrades for expedited shipping are possible for an additional fee. Please send us a message and we will do our best to accommodate your timeline.

We ship everything in a custom gift box suitable for presentation. A unique complimentary gift card can also be included: just let us know whether it's a birthday, wedding, graduation, or anniversary gift.

If an item is lost in the mail, a refund for the purchase price including shipping will be given after the claim has been submitted through Etsy's insurance carrier Shipsurance. The buyer will be required to fill out an affadavit in order to receive a refund, and that form will be emailed directly to the buyer through the claims process.

This is Etsy's official policy on claims: for lost parcels, you must wait 21 days for domestic and 40 days for international locations. Claims for damage or items missing from shipments can be filed immediately.

Refunds cannot be processed after 90 days from the date of mailing as per Shipsurance's policies. Please note: buyer must cooperate with the affadavit process in order to receive a refund.

Due to recent changes in VAT and customs regulations, we are unable to ship to all international locations. Please message us for availability and rates for shipping to your location.

All items are shipped insured and declared at full value of purchase (not including shipping). We are unable to mark merchandise purchased as a "gift" to avoid customs duties, as this is considered customs fraud.

All duties and customs fees are the responsibility of the buyer. Please be aware of any possible duties, VAT charges, and fees your purchase may be subject to upon arrival in your country. For example, UK residents may be charged by their customs office up to 20% VAT on the value of their purchase over £15, plus a handling fee from the Royal Mail. These fees are the responsibility of the purchaser.

We are not responsible for or able to affect customs or carrier delays.

Items refused at delivery or returned due to failure to pay customs fees will be refunded minus our 5% restock fee as well as any other fees or charges assessed at the return. Original shipping is not refundable.

PLEASE NOTE: Customers are responsible for entering the correct shipping information. Changes to a shipping address after an order is placed cannot be guaranteed. Redirection is sometimes available via USPS with an additional fee, and this fee is the sole responsibility of the buyer. Re-shipping orders returned to us due to buyer error (such as incorrect address at checkout) will incur new postage charges which are the sole responsibility of the buyer.
Additional policies and FAQs
All shop prices are firm. As a courtesy, we offer free insured and tracked domestic shipping on all items.

Ring sizing can be done for an additional fee, generally $45.00 - 60.00 USD for up to three full sizes for most rings. Extra wide bands and platinum rings are extra; please confirm before requesting sizing as charges can vary, and please be advised not all rings are resizable.

Sizing generally takes one to two weeks to complete (depending on the ring), and laser work sometimes needs additional time.

Hand-engraving services are available, in a variety of fonts; the price is dependent on style, size, and number of characters. Engraving generally takes two weeks to complete, depending on the piece in question and the time of year, with holidays needing longer lead times.

Other customizations such as bracelet or necklace lengths are possible, please message us before purchase for information.

The pieces in the shop are described as accurately as we are able with the aid of magnified viewing, over 35 years experience with jewelry, and consultation with experts in the field when necessary. We only sell pieces that we've determined are in wearable and serviceable condition.

The antique and vintage items, as well as many of the repurposed pieces, will have lived a long and perhaps adventurous life before they come to the shop. Please keep in mind these are pieces with history and are not in brand-new/unworn condition. We will verbally note any issues in the description and provide multiple photographs, which should also be considered part of the description.

Nothing is immune to damage or wear after purchase if proper care is not taken, and items may require maintenance at some point after purchase (i.e. stone tightening, band resoldering, prong retipping, etc.). It is important to choose pieces that are appropriate for your lifestyle - especially important with an engagement ring or other piece that might be worn daily for an extended period of time. Consider prongs, enamel, pearls, opals, and foil-backed stones carefully as they may not work for daily or vigorous wear. We are happy to discuss any concerns you might have in this regard; don't hesitate to reach out with any questions.

It is recommended that rings be removed when performing manual labor such as gardening, heavy carpentry, working out, or any other strenuous activity. Swinging a hammer is really hard on the round shape of a band. This particularly applies to pieces with enamel, pearls, opals, and delicate filigree but even diamonds can chip or stones can fall out if proper care is not taken.

Don't be afraid of your jewelry! Just be aware of it and tailor your expectations accordingly.

If your piece should happen to need repair after purchase, please contact us for an evaluation and estimate. We guarantee the items are as described, but do not guarantee they won't need maintenance or repair due to use and wear after purchase. Repairs are subject to reasonable fees which will be determined after evaluation. We do not reimburse for repairs done to our pieces by other shops, and cannot offer guarantees of any work done by another jeweler.

A note about diamond size and weight: many of the items we sell are already set with their gemstones or diamonds. The cuts are usually old mine or European and because of their deeper culets, off-round shapes, and higher tables, their weight is difficult to determine using the formulas for diamonds with a contemporary cut. Therefore the approximate weights can only be estimated. It is impossible to get an accurate number without removing the diamond from the setting to be weighed and this could possibly damage the piece.

All sizes and weights on set stones are approximate. Differences found under 1 mm are not considered appreciable. By industry standards, appraisers' grades can often differ up to and including one full grade.

Where the diamond or stone is the greater part of the sum value, we do have the piece professionally examined and verbally appraised by a certified gemologist. Where the diamond or stone is an accent or a more equitable part of the sum value, we provide the measurements so you can visualize the size and design characteristics.

We are happy to answer any questions and can usually respond to your inquiries within 24 hours.
