About

Welcome to the Lost Coast of California!

Hello! My name is Hannah. Thank for visiting The Filthy Beast!

I have made Humboldt County my home for the past 6 years, living in the small village of Shelter Cove for the first 5 years and then moving up to the Eureka area last year. Sometimes I feel like a country girl suddenly thrust into the big city (even though Eureka's population is only 27,000), but fortunately, many of my artistic goals survived the move. Onward and upward!

Here's what I'm about:

I believe in celebrating Nature by using pieces of it in my work. That is why all of the pieces of glass and shells in my jewelry & suncatchers are completely natural and found by me on the beach! I hope in doing so that the true work of Nature can be fully appreciated.

To help my vision of sustainability, I pledge to pick up ONE POUND of trash off the beach for every order placed in my shop. Your purchase will not only give you a gift from the ocean, but you will now be able to give the gift back by helping to keep the ocean clean!

Why pick up trash? It's pretty simple. I was walking on the beach one day to gather sea glass, and I found a surprising amount of trash on the beach. I busted out a big black bag to gather it up, and then I realized what a great idea it would be to incorporate beach clean-ups into the main mission of my shop: promoting sustainability.

Now for why my shop is called "The Filthy Beast." My friend and I were sitting watching one of my favorite movies of all time, 'Father Goose,' starring Cary Grant and Leslie Caron. There's a line that refers to these characters as 'goody two-shoes and the filthy beast.' My friend turned to me and said, "That would be the perfect name for your shop." And so it was. Since that whole line wouldn't fit in an Etsy shop title, it became abbreviated to "The Filthy Beast." That's the best part of the line anyway. :)

Welcome to The Filthy Beast!

My mission is to offer unique, affordable, handmade items using natural resources that you're sure to love, while also giving back to the planet!

That's why I pledge to pick up ONE POUND (at least) of trash on the beach for every purchase made in my shop! I even send you a photo of the trash that you helped clean up with your support! :-)

When you choose to purchase handmade items, you understand the careful, individual attention paid by the artisan to each piece of art. You appreciate the countless hours taken to perfect each work from start to finish. You delight in knowing that someone took the time to create something unique for you.

Thank you for choosing to support handmade crafts and artwork!

Payment
I am flattered that you chose my item to purchase!

Once an order is placed and an invoice is generated, please complete your payment within 48 hours to avoid cancellation.

Accepted methods of payment:
- Credit card
- PayPal
- Gift cards

For California customers only, sales tax is applied to your purchase upon check-out. You can see this applied before paying.

I love our planet and want to reduce waste, and I'm sure you do too. Unless requested, I do not include your receipt with your package. You are more than welcome to ask me for a copy, or feel free to print it off your computer at any time in your 'Purchases' section.
Shipping
Orders are shipped within 2-4 days of payment confirmation (except for 'Made to Order' items).

Because of their uniqueness and irreproducibility, many of my items are shipped with insurance, and some include Signature Confirmation. If for any reason you do not want Signature Confirmation, please just let me know beforehand.

For U.S. customers, all orders ship by weight via USPS First-Class (or Priority for orders weighing over 1 pound). Tracking is included so you know exactly where your order is!

To request an upgrade in shipping, please just send me a message to let me know exactly what you'd like. I'll create a custom listing with your preferred shipping method. No overnight shipping is available.

Packaging: All items are securely packaged in 100% recycled materials whenever possible (either made of 100% recycled materials or re-used from other packages). If you get some blue bubble wrap in your order, guess what? It's biodegradable! Light and moisture will make it fade away :-) I use newspaper for packaging and I re-use packing materials that I receive.

Gift-wrapping: All purchases come gift-wrapped, even if it's a gift for you! :-) If your order is a gift for someone else and you would like me to include a personal note, please just contact me at check-out and I am pleased to do so!
Refunds and Exchanges
I guarantee that all items leave my shop in perfect condition and are securely packaged. However, in rare & uncontrollable incidences, accidents can happen during the shipment process. A free replacement* is available if your item has arrived damaged. However, to receive the replacement, I must be notified within 48 hours of delivery that damage has occurred in shipping, along with a picture (either by sending me a message via Etsy or by emailing me directly at hannah.eisloeffel [!at] gmail.com).

The photo helps me tremendously so that I can see exactly how it is broken. In certain instances, the item might need to be shipped back to me before I can create your replacement.

*Note: Identical replacements of handmade items are usually not available. Please allow at least 10 days to receive your replacement.

If you receive your item and it is not what you expected and you would prefer a refund, then please let me know within 48 hours of delivery (same as above). I will be happy to refund you for the cost of the item (minus shipping) AFTER I have received it back from you in its original condition (the return address is on the package or just contact me). This return shipping cost is up to you.

PLEASE be sure to read ALL item descriptions carefully and look at all of the pictures to avoid needing a refund. That makes it easier for everyone! :-)

***I want your shopping experience to be a completely satisfying one! If you receive something that was not what you expected, please let me know so that I can arrange for a refund, replacement, or store credit. I would much rather make sure you are satisfied than keep earnings from purchases that you do not like. Please let me know so I can help make it right! :-) ***
Additional policies and FAQs
I am more than happy to create custom listings (sage stick packages, sea glass colors, necklace chain substitutions, etc.). Just contact me to let me know what you'd like! :-)
