A journey along The Flint Path…

Hi there! I’m Ali, here’s a little bit about me at The Flint Path.

As a child I was always making and creating: drawing, stitching or sticking things together. Years ago, my parents bought me a second-hand Bernina sewing machine and it is still the one I treasure and use today.

My working background is in teaching art, as well as running creative events and workshops. For my degree, I specialised in textiles, but along the way I have explored a variety of other practices including painting, drawing, print-making and creating large structures from willow.

It has taken me a while to get to the point of putting myself out there in shop form! The time had come for a new direction and after a lot of exciting thought and research, the journey along The Flint Path began.
I am born and bred in Sussex, where flint can be found in abundance on country trails and in the historical buildings typical of the region. The pebbled coastline is also made from flint, where beautiful sea-hewn stones can be found.

Although I admire many different art styles, I find my own work is mostly inspired by Folk-Art from all around the world and by rural and country crafts. Being out and about on the Sussex Downs, or in its woodlands, is where I gain many of my ideas. I favour intricate patterns and delicate detail, often worked in a natural or muted colour palette.
In the shop I offer items created from a variety of materials, which I hope will find their way to like-minded individuals out there.
I make all the pieces in my little studio at home, looking over the garden. I am very grateful to have that space to myself to do what I love.

If you’re still reading: I’m impressed and thanks for your interest! I hope you will enjoy browsing at The Flint Path and perhaps see something you like.
