Busy, busy, busy! School has started back and I have ended up with 2 part time jobs! Whhhaaaattttt? Yes, seriously, TWO! They combine my love of the outdoors/nature and my love of teaching. My new job is going into schools and teaching about how important taking care of our water is, taking kids out to test the water close to the school and then discussing the test results and discussing what we can do to help make the water quality of the lakes, streams... around us, better. The other is tutoring at the school I retired! ;-) Not bad when you get the paycheck but hard on you when you are trying to be creative and run my Etsy shop! So much for being retired, right? Since I am working more during the day, the weekends and evenings will be my working time for the shop! My goal is to get items posted during the weekend and fabric, runners, pillows.... discharged, serged, finished and photographed during the week! So, here is what I am working on right now! **There is the coolest mandala design that I can't wait to get posted! It would make such a cool pillow, purse or whatever your imagination can come up with! Look for it to start popping up by the weekend! **I created a really fun Mr. Skeleton Head wall hanging that I can't wait to post! It did really well at the quilt shows and I saved a few back to post on my shop for you guys! .... It is so very, very fun and so unique! Oh, I can't wait to show it to you! I am going to try and get it posted by the last weekend in September ** I also designed a heron table runner that I can't wait to show you! It takes a lot of time and patience to create but the results are so worth it! If I get a chance to finish the wallhanging version of the runner, I will kit it up and get it posted for you, too! ******************************************************************************************* I plan on starting back with Etsy & Company at The Exchange in October! If you live in the area, this is a great opportunity to shop from local Etsy shops... and a few other artisans! It is held the second Saturday of each month on the historic Independence, Missouri Square! Want more info? Send me a convo and I can fill you in! ********************************************************************************************IF you want to know what is going on at The Funky Silkworm, but don't live in the area, feel free to "Like" my Facebook Page, The Funky Silkworm at Etsy.com ! ( Yes, if you see something that you just have to have, you can message me and I will be more than happy to save it for you and make a special listing with your name on it! ) It's a great way to see what items I have been working on before they hit the shop! ;-) When I get some discharge dying done I try and post the new/unfinished items on my Facebook page!.... I love the new fabrics and colors ...most of them look pretty cool! I have to say that they look much better in real life than on my Facebook page! I am working on those photography skills! I am also on Instagram as The Funky Silkworm so feel free to check that out, too! As always, thanks for stopping by! Now, I had better get back to work! ;-) Carol

About

The Funky Silkworm

My oldest sister ( My Vintage Voice, Seamstress Moon) introduced me to Etsy a few years ago! She thought it would be a great place for me to showcase what I make! After giving it some thought and doing a little research, I opened up my shop, The Funky Silkworm! My store is kind of going down three different directions!

The first road has to do with my father's books! My father has been writing for as long as I remember! Once he retired, he started writing and publishing his books and we are so proud of him! You can find all of his books in my store and he would love to autograph any of his books for you!

The second is the road of Audubon prints! As you know I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them! I realize that there are people in this world who can buy just about anything they want for their home. I also realize there are a lot of people who have to miss out on things they love because it is just not in the budget! It is my hope that if you are a lover of Audubon prints, I am making them available for you at a decent price so you can share in the love of them! ;-) I do have an ever growing collection as they just make me smile but I do try and limit myself so that there are some left for you to love and smile about too! ( It isn't always easy because I LOVE THESE PRINTS!!!! ;-)

The third road has to do with fabric. Either using it to create fun items or designing and making my own! When I first started, I had hoped to be working with silks but one day, that will happen! Right now, I am having a great time exploring cotton fabrics through discharge dying and also adding different colors back in! It is so fun because you never know what is going to happen when you are doing it but i always love how it comes out in the end! I hope you do, too! I am soon going to add new tye dye shirts to my shop! My husband has been bitten by the Tye Dye Bug and is really getting good at it! So, in the next few weeks, look for some fun, bright tye dye shirts to get posted! ;-)

Thanks for coming and looking! Don't forget to stop back by! I am working on posting things as soon as they are made! ;-)

Have a great day!
