Announcement    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ WELCOME TO MY WORLD!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
...a world where it is forever somewhere between 1900 and 1964, with an emphasis on the Art Deco period; it's the world of Downton Abbey, Poirot, Miss Marple, and the House of Eliott, the Streamline World of Fred and Ginger, Rita Hayworth, Marlene Dietrich, Cary Grant, the sunny world of Doris Day... think of it as a vintage department store (although I'm not quite 'Mr Selfridge'!) of things I have designed, made, or sourced and gathered together under one roof for you to buy.

I am an Artist-Designer and I sell Original & Reproduction Art & Design, Fashion, Books & Ephemera, and Home Accessories, 1900 - 1964, which I've tried to list in sections that will help you whether you know exactly what you are looking for, or whether you'd like to just browse and experience a bit of social history - like exploring themed rooms in a museum, to make it just a bit entertaining and informative.

This carefully curated Emporium is not just my shop - it is your ticket to another country called The Past: so climb aboard the Orient Express with me and come Time Travelling!

Thankyou, and, 'Bon voyage'!

"When a man is tired of Style, he is tired of Life" - The Glamourist, Etsy 2019, quoting Mr Carson, Downton Abbey 1920, paraphrasing Dr Samuel Johnson 1777!

Please see my policies if you intend buying from me or sending me a message, as placing your order constitutes acceptance of them. Thankyou.

Painting The Clouds With Sunshine...

Shop policies

Last updated on May 9, 2022
Welcome to Painting The Clouds With Sunshine!

I have loved the 1920s, '30s and '40s ever since I can remember, and have just got more and more fascinated by all aspects of life in that era the more I have learned -'learned' both academically, experientially, and through practise.

The more I learn about the period, the more I want to know - and the same is true of my applied creative skills and the work I produce.

This is why I take a deeply personal interest in the items I sell, and even more so in the items I make myself - they are part of me; and that is why it gives me special pleasure when I know they have gone to a good home, to a person who truly appreciates them and will love them. So if after purchasing from me you feel inclined to send me any message to this effect, it will be appreciated and I am happy to enter into communication.

BY PLACING AN ORDER WITH ME, YOU ARE AGREEING TO THE FOLLOWING TERMS:

Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits

Please contact the seller if you have any problems with your order.

Payment

I accept payment by Paypal. I will accept payment by cheque if drawn on a UK bank. If you use this method of payment, I will require the cheque to clear before despatching your purchase. I can accept credit cards only through Etsy's direct checkout system.

I ship all items with a full declaration of the total purchase price; any and all customs, duties and taxes payable upon arrival of the piece within the home territory of the purchasor are the full responsibility of the purchasor.

Shipping

Items will be shipped within 3-5 working days of your payment clearing, by regular second class mail in the UK, or airmail elsewhere. Shipping time will then be subject to standard practise or prevailing conditions of your and my country's mail service, which is beyond my control; but expected delivery should be within one to four weeks of purchase for international destinations and within one week in the UK, as a rough guide, usually less than this though.

If you want an item delivered to an address other than the one on your account (which is the one I receive automatically with your order), I am happy to arrange this if you tell me at the time of ordering. If it is not in your own country, a different shipping charge will apply.

PLEASE NOTE: In order to keep costs down for you I quote and will use minimum shipping rates unless otherwise requested, as postage charges are now very high. Royal Mail is reliable, excellent and fast, but obviously it is not impossible for delays or damage to occur and on rare occasions, for an item to go missing - please note, this is extremely rare, and is beyond my control and I accept no liability for such occurrences, and I am also not able to do anything about the mail service in your country. In such instances, it may be possible to recover shipping costs and possibly part or all of the value of the item, but there is no guarantee of this. I do not use Royal Mail Tracking on your shipping unless you request it, since this STARTS at a further £5-50 (UK) and £12-50 (abroad) on top of quoted shipping price and increases with weight and destination.

PLEASE NOTE: PURCHASING TRACKING OR INSURANCE IS THE ONLY WAY TO 100% GUARANTEE RECEIVING A REFUND IF YOUR ITEM IS NOT DELIVERED OR ARRIVES DAMAGED. If you want this option, please ask me before ordering, and I will be happy to calculate a quote for you based on the size, weight and destination of your item, as this will incur a further charge.

Please note I use recycled packaging for shipping to keep costs down. Packages may therefore not look very pretty, but they will be suitable for the item and its protection. Rest assured however, that years of experience in the antiques trade and packing up my own home four times for overseas shipping means I am extremely thorough in packing all items very well for their protection - please see some of the feedback satisfied customers have left me to this effect!

Additional policies and FAQs

Wherever possible in my own creations, I use original vintage or antique materials to achieve my high degree of authenticity. This does mean that there may sometimes be what you might consider flaws that would not be present on a brand new, modern-manufactured, machine-made item. Naturally I strive for as near-perfection of finish as can be achieved, but it is this recycling of materials that gives my creations their particular look, such that customers sometimes mistake them for originals from the period - which is what I am setting out to achieve.

Likewise, please be aware that other goods I sell are original vintage or antique, are sold 'as found', and therefore bear the marks of wear - this is one of the things that adds to their appeal, it is part of their history and charm, so please do not expect them to be perfect unless described as such. I will always describe any damage, wear or defects as accurately as I can to avoid disappointment for you.

Please do not hesitate to ask me if you need further details about any item, such as sleeve length, condition, etc.

I am always open to custom orders.

If you approach me in a polite, friendly and respectful way, provide me with your name and address me by mine, I will go out of my way to give you the most excellent old-fashioned service you have ever received. This courtesy is the least we owe each other: let's preserve not just the beauty of Vintage looks and the personal artisan crafts, but of Vintage Manners too.

I truly look forward to being of service to you.

Yours most sincerely,

Martin Faulkner,
'The Glamourist' - Painting The Clouds With Sunshine

This Privacy Policy describes how and when I collect, use, and share information when you purchase an item from me, contact me, or otherwise use my services through Etsy.com or its related sites and services.

This Privacy Policy does not apply to the practices of third parties that I do not own or control, including Etsy or any third party services you access through Etsy. You can reference the Etsy Privacy Policy to learn more about its privacy practices.

1. INFORMATION I COLLECT

To fulfil your order, you must provide me with certain information (with which you authorised Etsy to provide me), such as your name, email address, postal address and the details of the product that you’re ordering. You may also choose to provide me with additional personal information (for a custom order, for example), if you contact me directly.

2. WHY I NEED YOUR INFORMATION AND HOW I USE IT

I rely on a number of legal bases to collect, use, and share your information, including:
as needed to provide my services, such as when I use your information to fulfil your order, to settle disputes, or to provide customer support;
when you have provided your affirmative consent, which you may revoke at any time, such as by signing up for a mailing list (which in my case, I do not have anyway);
if necessary to comply with a legal obligation or court order or in connection with a legal claim, such as retaining information about your purchases if required by tax law; and
as necessary for the purpose of my legitimate interests, if those legitimate interests are not overridden by your rights or interests, such as 1) providing and improving my services. I use your information to provide the services you requested and in my legitimate interest to improve my services; and 2) Compliance with the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use. I use your information as necessary to comply with my obligations under the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use.

3. INFORMATION SHARING AND DISCLOSURE

Information about my customers is important to my business. I share your personal information for very limited reasons and in limited circumstances, as follows:
Etsy. I share information with Etsy as necessary to provide you with my services and comply with my obligations under both the Etsy Seller Policy and Etsy Terms of Use.
Service providers. I engage certain trusted third parties to perform functions and provide services to my shop, such as delivery companies. I will share your personal information with these third parties, but only to the extent necessary to perform these services.
Business transfers. If I sell or merge my business, I may disclose your information as part of that transaction, only to the extent permitted by law.
Compliance with laws. I may collect, use, retain, and share your information if I have a good faith belief that it is reasonably necessary to: (a) respond to legal process or to government requests; (b) enforce my agreements, terms and policies; (c) prevent, investigate, and address fraud and other illegal activity, security, or technical issues; or (d) protect the rights, property, and safety of my customers, or others.

4. DATA RETENTION

I retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide you with my services and as described in my Privacy Policy. However, I may also be required to retain this information to comply with my own legal and regulatory obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce my agreements. I generally keep your data for 6 years.

5. TRANSFERS OF PERSONAL INFORMATION OUTSIDE THE EU

I may store and process your information through third-party hosting services in the US and other jurisdictions. As a result, I may transfer your personal information to a jurisdiction with different data protection and government surveillance laws than your jurisdiction. If I am deemed to transfer information about you outside of the EU, I rely on Privacy Shield as the legal basis for the transfer, as Google Cloud is Privacy Shield certified.

6. YOUR RIGHTS

If you reside in certain territories, including the EU, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal information. While some of these rights apply generally, certain rights apply only in certain limited cases, as follows:
- Access. You may have the right to access and receive a copy of the personal information I hold about you by contacting me using the contact information below.
- Change, restrict, delete. You may also have rights to change, restrict my use of, or delete your personal information. Apart from exceptional circumstances (eg. where I am required to store data for legal reasons) I will generally delete your personal information upon request.
- Object. You can object to (i) my processing of some of your information based on my legitimate interests and (ii) receiving marketing messages from me after providing your express consent to receive them. In such cases, I will delete your personal information unless I have compelling and legitimate grounds to continue using that information or if it is needed for legal reasons.
- Complain. If you reside in the EU and wish to raise a concern about my use of your information (and without prejudice to any other rights you may have), you have the right to do so with your local data protection authority.

7. HOW TO CONTACT ME
