About TheGrayUmbrella
THE GRAY UMBRELLA is the Creative Arts Studio of Aaron and Michelle Grayum, a husband/wife art and graphic design team operating in a small town just outside Nashville, Tennessee.
Married since 2001, Aaron and Michelle have been encouraging each other’s creative style and pursuits for nearly two decades. “Collaborating with Michelle is a breeze,” Aaron said. “We’ve worked together, in one way or another, for more than twenty years, so even though we each have our own individual styles and strengths, it’s just second nature now that we pretty much know what the other is thinking and have an easy time riffing off each other’s ideas.”
Aaron Grayum paints playful, colorful images with acrylic on canvas, like birds, umbrellas, and jellybean trees. He often incorporates words and poetry as a way to express a deep vulnerability that connects to his audience, ultimately sending a clear message: you’re not alone and you matter. Aaron was a 2018 participant in Nashville Arts and Business Council’s Periscope cohort and won the Pitch Competition in September 2018.
Michelle Grayum paints on wood panels using encaustic, an ancient technique involving hot beeswax and resin, creating beautiful, translucent layers which communicate both the complexity and simplicity of life.
