Creating beauty from the discarded
I fell in love with upcycling one day and The Gypsy Fae was born. All of my life I have been a creator and artist. Everyday I had to create something - it has always been a part of me. As a young girl I used to sew clothes for my dolls and as a teenager and in my early twenties I used to cut up my clothes to create other clothes - much to my mother's chagrin! Later I became a costumer and went to school for interior design. Then my world got turned upside down when I discovered upcycling and how much fun it was. Taking hems and zippers and button plackets from one piece and putting them in other pieces for a truly one of a kind item. I love to mix textiles and create patterns. I love to take an unwanted piece that may have a hole or a stain but the majority of it is still usable and give it new life and new beauty! I love to challenge myself every day to use a piece of clothing in a way not thought of. And saving clothes from the landfill - this is my mission! Too much clothing goes to waste!
Upcycling is now a part of me and everyday I am thinking about it and discovering new ideas. I have a gorgeous studio to work out of that inspires me and has plenty of space to spread out projects - very important! I try to use every bit - even the smallest scrap of fabric becomes a detail or even jewelry!
I name all of my pieces because I feel I have given them life! They are my babies, my creations and so much love goes into making them!
I hope you enjoy my pieces!
