I love my dragon! A piece of fine craftsmanship! Very detailed and delicate work with a character.

About

My workshop and I

My workshop reflects my personality, untidy but organised .I know where everything is as long as no one comes in and starts moving things around.

One of our four cats, Spot likes to watch me working, he has his own bed on a shelf I put up for him under the workbench but he prefers to sit on top of the fan heater or on the bench on the wall behind me where he can keep an eye on what I'm doing and see out the window as well.

My homemade workbench is nearly 30 years old now, It has been moved from house to house 3 times. It now has a unit with a sink in the far end but no water or drain connected to it yet . I added the drawers to it when it was set up in this shed as I had amassed so many tools and "things that will be useful one day", that they could not be contained in an assortment of boxes any longer. But as you can see the rest of my space is still overflowing with stuff.

I blame my parents for the hoarding habit, my mother has bags and bags of wool and fabric, my dad has bits of metal in his garage/workshop that he couldn't bring himself to throw away 50 years ago, but might yet be used when that mythical "one day" comes. I have both, bits of fabric, wool, wood, metal, plastic, you name it I've probably got a bit of it somewhere around the house.

I wish I could say that I make things for a living but I have a deadly boring office job and this is my way of maintaining my sanity and fulfilling those creative urges that must be obeyed.

I come from a very creative family, the ability and indeed, the urge to make things is deeply ingrained. I studied silversmithing and jewellery at college because I wanted to learn metal working skills, rather than a desire to make jewellery..
