About

You know what they say about sneezing.....(don't you?)

Launched in January 2009, The Honey Press began as an online space founded on the principle that a lot can be created from very little. In 2008, I was laid off from my job and had a lot of free time. I discovered Etsy accidentally while searching for a birthday present for my sister online. But what a happy accident it was! I immediately thought, oh! this is the place for me and I dove right into the Etsy pool. I decided to call my shop The Honey Press because 'honey' is one of my favorite words, and silkscreening is one of my favorite mediums. So, The Honey Press was born.

At first, I made dish towels, art prints, tiny sock dolls and handkerchiefs, but the hankies were the thing that really took off. A friend asked me if I could make him some fun handkerchiefs. He is an avid user and found most handkerchiefs to be very boring and plain. So I did, and I called them Sneezy Sheets. Etsy seemed to be saturated with beautiful art and wonderful dolls and kitchen accessories, but at the time, no one was making screen printed hankies. I couldn't compete with the other sellers and their finely stitched dolls and museum quality art prints, so I ditched all the other stuff and focused solely on Sneezy Sheets.

More than three years later, here I am! I'm proud to say that I was one of the first handkerchief sellers in my hankie screen printing niche, now there are several. I've been featured in Australia's Frankie Magazine and many fabulous blogs and online articles. My customers are all fantastic. I believe if you make something with love and kindness, that love and kindness will come right back to you. I am so grateful for every single order.

The process begins with finding the right hankies. I've searched high and low these past three years and found that the best handkerchiefs come from the UK. So almost all my handkerchiefs are from England and all are 100% cotton. Through this search, I've been lucky enough to gain the best pen-pal in the world, Vicki. She is my go-to-gal outside London for the finest handkerchiefs. But now she is also my friend, although we've never met, and we talk about everything......everything! Next, I come up with a design and either hand-draw it or computer generate it in Photoshop. Then I create a silkscreen and screen print directly onto the hankie. After a little drying time, ironing time, photo shoot time and uploading, voila, I've made a Sneezy Sheet! I like things to be fun, and sometimes a little weird, but always something that will make me smile, and hopefully others.

I love creating and I especially love hankies because they are kind to the environment and an old-fashioned elegance. My dream is to do this full time one day, but for now, nights and weekends will do. I am driven by modern ideas with a reverence for traditional methods and believe that the things we bring into our homes should have a soul, a sense of history and a little bit of whimsy.

So you know what they say about sneezing, don't you? When you sneeze, it means someone you love is thinking about you. I love that.

The Honey Press is founded on the principle that a lot can be created from very little.

Each piece is made by hand - an original work of art. Created by me, designed for you.
