It Serves Its Purposes

You can be retired, semi-retired or inspired retired. I've made aims to live out my remaining time on this little fur ball we call Earth as an inspired retired individual who embraces the golden opportunity to be able work on the kind of things that motivate me to jump out of bed in the morning. This Etsy shop is just such a project.

Born in 1956, I can tell you that I've shown artistic ability from the first moment I picked up a crayon. As a young child often praised for “my” talent, I was yet more truthfully aware that this artistic leaning was actually a gracious God-given gift. Even then, for me, the real question was, “What's its purpose?”

I never became the “famous artist” everyone thought I should be. I always reasoned that my gift should fulfill a need, not an ego. In terms of passion, I was actually drawn to the horticultural field of which I became a designer and business owner of a landscape contracting company. During those years I used my God-given talent in a multitude of ways for the business (as well as ministry teaching aids on the side). Then, around 2001, while laying out the business website art on my brand new PhotoShop program, I absolutely fell in love with computer-generated graphics. Everything beforehand was either technical drawings or old-school hand-drawn art. Additionally surprising, I discovered that (long before personal computers even existed), the art talent given to me possessed a perfectly “time-released” aptitude toward computer-generated art. My gift was just getting started!

Nowadays, I have the time to enjoy “playing” with my artistic talent. Not a bad purpose :) With my newfound exploration of “recreational art,” the quiet hours of my draw time have become quite the prayerful communion between myself and my gift-giving Creator; the two most frequent prayers of which are: “Lord, what the heck do I do now?!” and “Lord, how the heck do I fix that?!” The learning process never ends. Hope you enjoy what I've learned thus far.
