About

Slow Down to Savor Handmade Happiness

In the world of mass produced "stuff," I cherish the opportunity to provide lovingly handmade items to those who appreciate the time and effort that goes into their creation.

My mom taught me to crochet when I was a little girl. I am eternally grateful that she taught me that every stitch had the same basis, so I was never intimated by a project that seemed too complex or challenging. I thrived on the challenge. She tried to teach me to knit, but it just didn't stick with me.

My crafting took a backseat as I made my way through college and career, but re-emerged after my second child was born. I suddenly felt a need to knit; I bought a learn to knit book but following the instructions didn't feel right. I finally tossed the book aside and played around with the needles and fiber until it felt right and low and behold I was knitting! After the fact, I realized the book was teaching "American" style knitting, and I had the imprint of my mom's German knitting instruction from when I was a kid apparently burned into my brain.

I dabbled with crochet and knitting for a few years as my family continued to grow and found myself receiving more and more requests from family and friends to make them items. I decided to make the leap and open my Etsy store in the spring of 2014.

With 5 rambunctious homeschooling kiddos, I love the calming action of twisting fiber with needles or hooks to create a hand crafted item. I savor the slowness of the handcrafting process. I don't have a pigeon hole that I fit into currently with the items that I make. I enjoy the fun cuteness of kid items like hats and slippers, but I also relish the attention to detail and brain exercise that high quality heirloom lace projects engender.
