About Emgee

Megan Greenwood creates bespoke jewellery designs for the whimsical at heart.

Inspired by her natural environment, Emgee bespoke pieces evoke nostalgic narratives of sirens and childhood fantasies. Each piece empowers wearers to feel beautiful, and to be the truest and most confident version of themselves. Megan is known as a storyteller, a maker and a sculptor.
Megan started Emgee in 2008, making rings, necklaces, brooches and headpieces from antique silver cutlery. Each would be turned into little creatures like sparrows, owls, foxes, elephants and rabbits, as well as one-of-a-kind commissions. In 2012, Megan decided to go to TAFE for formal training. “I had so many ideas, but I was unsure how to execute them, because at that stage I had only been self-taught. When I graduated in 2013 I had re-invented what and who Emgee was. My journey as a maker was only just getting started.”
The Emgee design process is both spontaneous and structured. “I could be watching a movie, documentary, or listening to a song, or in nature and see something that triggers that light bulb moment. If I’m too rigid it won’t work, and will come across as contrived and overthought,” Megan says. “It’s an organic process, which of course is the best way to reflect nature.”
Imagination is a precious asset that many neglect in adulthood, and artistry is Megan’s way of bringing people into her world. “Designing and making jewellery is a part of who I am. I can build little worlds of the things that inspire me. These are my dreams, fragments of places that I have been to and seen; music, films and people who have inspired me. Creating Emgee has given me my voice and has then created a way for me to be able to share my world with others.”

Welcome to The little shop of Emgee.

Everything here has been hand-crafted by Megan Greenwood in her studio at home. She fabricates her work using old silversmithing techniques. She hand sculpts a lot of her pieces using the lost wax technique and incorporates found materials and vintage objects in some of her one off and limited edition designs. She is eclectic in style, a dream weaver and lover of remnants that get left behind. When designing and making she often finds that she creates best in an uncontrolled environment, not needing to sketch out her designs first but letting her tools and wax create its own story along the way.

Precious metals are organic materials. Over time, sterling silver jewellery often develops a dark patina. It is a natural response to being exposed to our environment, worn on the body and well loved. You can use a jewellers polishing cloth as found at your local jewellery suppliers or supermarket. Alternatively Megan uses a solution called Silver Clean. A specialized bath for silver Jewellery that removes tarnish instantly and restores the original shine. Also available through your local Jewellery suppliers.

Many of Megan’s pieces have been deliberately blackened to create a deeper aesthetic of elegance and history to the pieces. As the oxidization process is not permanent, Megan offers free oxidization & polishing on drop off. If you require it to be posted back to you, you will be charged a standard postage fee according to your location.

Jewellery should be carefully stored. Care should be taken to protect it from knocks, chemicals, extreme temperatures & sunlight. Jewellery is fragile but when treated with respect will look fabulous and last for many years.
Do not wear jewellery when in the swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna/steam room or while bathing or showering. Chlorine, detergents, oils & perfumes can all cause tarnishing & damage to the metals and any organic stones/materials.
There are certain products that you can purchase that can be used specifically for cleaning costume jewellery. Read labels to be sure that the product doesn’t contain ammonia, vinegar, acid or alcohol. These substances can be too harsh for delicate materials. If your piece contains pearls or semi-precious stones, be sure that the cleaner indicates that it will not harm them.
• Remove jewellery when doing household tasks.
• When undressing, remove jewellery items first, this will help insure that necklaces, brooches, bracelets, and earrings don't get caught on your clothes and get damaged.
• Make-up, perfume & hairspray all contain chemicals which may Damage or tarnish your jewellery. Do this before you put on your jewellery.
• wipe jewellery clean with a soft cloth after each wear to remove make up & oils (from skin).
• Pearls and other Organic Gemstones: It's best to wipe this type of jewelry with a soft, lint-free cloth as soon as you take them off. The cloth can be dampened with water or it can be dry. If damp, allow organic gemstones to air dry before putting them away. Moisture can cause tarnishing, & may weaken springs & clasps.
• Store each piece of jewelry separately. If possible, place individual pieces in either a cloth pouch, or in a jewelry case with separate compartments.
• Hang your necklaces in a safe place or Coil chains gently to prevent damage in storage.
• Avoid exposure to detergents, bleaches, baking soda, and ammonia-based products.
• Avoid placing excess strain on necklaces, chains or bracelets.
• Some designs may contain a jeweler’s glue so avoid storing pieces in direct sunlight or extreme heat or cold.

These procedures are helpful in preserving the beauty of your jewellery and accessories. HOWEVER, any damage caused by mistreatment (e.g. Throwing, bending, rough play, dropping and general misuse) or any change to the item after purchase, resulting in damage, is the sole responsibility of the buyer.

Take care & enjoy
