Combining my passions for nature, health, + all things handmade

I grew up in Chicago, and currently live + work out of my tiny studio in NYC.
For as long as I can remember I’ve known that I wanted to be an artist, and eventually run my own business.
I was inspired from an early age by my grandparents, who ran a drapery business out of their garage. I spent lots of time with the many creative women in my family, who helped me do all kinds of crafty projects as a kid. In college I studied photography, drawing, painting & printmaking. I had been following the diy/handmade movement for years, and when graduated college in 2007 I started selling linoleum prints in my first etsy shop.

Shortly after I met Vincent Ramirez (who’s also an artist), we taught ourselves how to screen print at home.
At that time I was teaching myself to sew, and started selling some of my handmade accessories in my shop.
Vincent and I began printing shirts in 2009, because we loved the idea of creating pieces of wearable art.

I'd also been into nutrition, herbalism and fitness (especially yoga) for years.
I've worked at a handful of health food stores, and have read many books on wellness & detoxification. I feel that in order to have optimal health, it's important to get as many chemicals out of your life as possible. I also have a deep love of nature.

The more I learned about organically grown crops, conventionally grown cotton and the manufacturing of clothing,
the less comfortable I was selling regular cotton shirts. As soon as I was able to get my hands on some organic cotton tees, The Lotus Root was born.

I hand screen print my artwork (and some of Vincent's) onto eco-friendly clothing + my handmade accessories (using water-based ink) and use recycled packing materials whenever I can.

Please read each product description carefully before making your purchase, and note that my t-shirts may run smaller than shirts you've purchased in the past. It's a good idea to measure your favorite tee and compare the measurements to those in the description before making your purchase.

Measurements from t-shirts that are "in stock" are exact. The measurements in the listings for made-to-order shirts are an estimation based on the companies size chart - actual t-shirts may vary slightly in size.
Additional policies and FAQs
All of my items are hand printed by me, so occasionally the print may be slightly different than the one in the photo.
Please keep in mind that colors of t-shirts/ink may appear different on different monitors.
