Creating useful things from humble materials...
Michael and I have been married for 29 years. We have one beautiful daughter who is now 27 years old. We found, once she grew up and began her own life, that we had a lot more free time on our hands. We finally had time for our hobbies. I have been creating since I was a child, it's a gift I received from my mom. I think my favorite materials to use are beads and yarn. I really love it when I can make something useful like my dishcloths.
Michael discovered his love of working with wood when a friend gave him a bunch of maple and walnut scrap pieces. He started making cutting boards and wood boxes. Eventually the more he experimented with the wood, the more he found he liked making the small cross necklaces. He was inspired while in Honduras with the military. The small children would make wooden trinkets and sell them to the GI's as souvenirs.
When he begins, he has a general idea of what the piece will be but then as he is shaping it and sanding it, it becomes whatever shape the wood wants to be. That's what makes each piece a one of a kind and why some of the crosses are so unusual. He has enjoyed using small pieces of wood that would otherwise be thrown out, giving them new life.
We love the stories we hear from our customers about the joy our simple products bring them and their families. We hope to continue doing this for years to come.
