Fine art. One of a kind abstract art works created by Miami-based artist Randy Nutt, inspired by nature and mind.

What's it like to live with a Nutt?
"... a sparkling domain of vitality and beauty that resonates throughout my home" (L. R. Acworth, GA)
"...uniquely refreshing and deeply soul searching, they appeal to not only the soul, but the world" (C.T. Coral Gables, FL)
"...towards big space and little space both, making the light dance in some Unified Theory jig. I love that painting" (J.T. Indianapolis, IN)
"...the presence of Mr. Nutt's 'American Blood' and 'Vid-Earth'... catalyze and enrich our lives " (J.Y. & A.F. Beverly, MA)

My work is about ideas, inspired by patterns we are immersed in. Forces, shapes & rhythms of nature, positive & negative space, how humans & nature interact: this is what I think about. Unknown symbols, layers of color, lines, forms & sometimes text make their way into my work. I make art so I can see what I am thinking. I make art so I can get closer to the human world and closer to the natural world: closer to life.

Media include spray paint (used with templates and stencils), collage, water-based paints, cut painted paper, pastels, colored pencils. Recently, I create the works with pastels on paper. Then I mount the paper on a canvas which had already been prepared with gesso in a thick layer so that the final top surface is softy textured. Finally, I seal the surface with a clear spray. I texture the surface so the work becomes more of an object or ARTefact, the documentation of an idea.

All the works are one-of-a kind, signed, archival, the documentation of an idea, "ready to hang." Media include spray paint (used with templates and stencils), collage, water-based paints, cut painted paper, pastels, colored pencils.

Where to find different types of work --
---* Pastels *--------- | Chasing Light | Mirrors | Summer and Fall |
---* Paintings *------- | Time Thought Dream | Thoughts and Eternity |
-------------------------- | The Planet | Cities of the Heart | Turbulent Time |
---* Collages *-------- | 2D World | Cut Painted Paper |
---* Mixed Media *---- | The Humans | And Then |

The 2D World collages were mounted on heavy cardboard. matted and framed in box frames.

The works painted directly on canvas in The Planet, Thoughts and Eternity, Time Thought Dream , Turbulent Time were painted directly on the prepared canvas, or over another layer of paint. The canvas had already been prepared: stretched over wood frame, stapled at the back, smooth side edges painted with black gloss enamel, top surface prepared with gesso. The black side edges give the picture a finished look, so it doesn't have to have a frame. Some works do have simple wood strip frames painted black, others are in floating frames. Canvases are all ready to hang.

The works painted or drawn on paper then mounted on canvas in the Cut Painted Paper, And Then, The Humans, Chasing Light, Mirrors and Summer and Fall were created on paper first. Then I mounted the paper on the canvas which had already been prepared: stretched over wood frame, stapled at the back, smooth side edges painted with black gloss enamel, top surface prepared with gesso in a thick layer so that the final top surface is softy textured. Finally, the surface is sealed with a clear spray. The reason I texture the surface is so the work becomes an object or ARTefact, archival: the documentation of an idea. The black side edges give the picture a finished look, so it doesn't have to have a frame. Canvases are all ready to hang.

My art is about: the pattern of life. Virtually anything can be a source of inspiration when broken down into its fundamental parts and seen in the context of its world.

Welcome. Here at the Nutt Gallery Shop, shapes are floating by. We are immersed in the abstract patterns of our interactions with the everyday world: light, shadow, debris, dreams, nature, birds, joy, sadness... I invite you to explore the different abstract art series (Chasing Light, Cities of the Heart, 2D World, and more). Inspired by nature and mind, each series has a distinct character, making use of different elements, colors and media. Open a door and take your mind for a walk. Then take a piece of art home with you. Each unique composition tells an ongoing story, discovered and completed by its interaction with you as you view it and think about it. Enjoy!
