I absolutely love all animal fiber especially alpaca. I love to share that passion with others. I do raise alpacas. These gentle animals provide me with lots of inspiration.

I currently offer fibers for spinning and felting along with hand-dyed yarn. I do from time to time add some handspun yarn listings.

I'm by no means a professional photographer but I do strive to take the best possible photos I can take and represent the fiber and colors.

Animal fibers such as alpaca and wool will felt if not properly cleaned. Once you spin your fiber, I highly recommend setting the twist with hot water (not boiling). I typically add some fiber wash to the water to remove any oil or residue from your spinning.

Your crochet, knit or woven pieces should be soaked in cool water with a fiber wash. You can spin out the excess water with a salad spinner or gently squeeze with a towel (be careful not to twist your masterpiece). Then lay flat to dry. I block most of my items.

Hand dyed yarn and fiber may bleed slightly as it is the nature of some dyes to have residue. Using a color catcher or giving it an extra rinse should help.

You may always contact me through the messages in the shop for questions or problems. I strive to have only happy customers.

Custom colors or blends can be made, please contact me through the shop and make your request.

About ThePaintedAlpaca

On Etsy since 2018

I'm passionate about fiber arts and love to share this passion.

I've have been in the fiber arts for a very long time. My aunt taught me to crochet at a young age. I soon learned about knitting, and weaving. I discovered there was more than acrylic yarn. In this quest to learn more about all the different fiber sources, I realized that I needed to raise some fiber animals and learn to spin. Our foundation herd started with four female alpacas. Yes, ALPACAS!!!! Those cuddly bear fiber animals live with me on our little ranch. These precious animals supply me with lovely alpaca fiber.

Currently our shop offers the following:
- Hand dyed yarn. The yarn base comes from a mill in the United States and dyed in my studio.
- Alpaca comb top. The comb top does come from the mill.
- Alpaca carded batts. These carded batts are from my own Texas alpacas.
- Hand spun yarn. As you can guess, I hand spin the yarn in my studio.
- Hand dyed comb top. The comb top comes from the mill and dyed in my studio. I do spin some of this myself.

I do welcome any suggestions regarding colors you may like to see more of at any given time.

Thank you for your support.
