About

Magical Painting Ponies & Dachshunds in Super Hero Capes

Over ten years ago I was loaned a Chincoteague Pony, dubbed Minnow, that had begun his life as a wild foal on Assateague Island in Virginia. After being auctioned off at the annual Pony Swim and Auction in 1993 he had a difficult first 10 years of his life. Passed through many homes and a victim of neglect he was untrusting of the world when I met him.

I spent years earning Minnow's trust and began to develop a language between us with the help of clicker training. Slowly we began to build a bond with each other like nothing else. I began teaching Minnow trick after trick and competing him all over the East Coast.

In 2007 I decided to bring Minnow to art school with me. One cold winter day I had lugged my paints out to the farm where I kept him and decided to see if I could teach my amazing pony to paint. His first paintings were created that year and as time past he began to develop a style all of his own. Minnow and I enjoyed our special painting time together, but then in 2008 tragedy struck.

Minnow was diagnosed with Ringbone, a form of arthritis in horses, and confined to a stall while we tried to manage his pain. Our competition career was over and I feared I would lose my best friend.

During this tough time we spent hours painting together. When Minnow painted he was at peace, and I enjoyed every minute I got to spend with him. His paintings began to pile higher and higher and I was running out of friends to gift them to. It was because of Minnow's love of painting that PaintingPony.com was born and has since become a way to share his gift with the World.

Soon word of the Painting Chincoteague Pony began to spread and Minnow was invited to return to his once home on Chincoteague Island, VA to paint and perform. During Minnow's first performance in the Summer of 2008 I looked into the vibrant and happy eyes of the most wonderful pony I had ever met and knew that this was what he was meant to do.

Since then Minnow has gone on to paint hundreds of paintings that have sold all around the World and he continues to put smiles on the faces of everyone who meets him. With the sale of his paintings we raise funds to help animal rescues and shelters.

Minnow has gone on to teach his younger brothers, Blitz and Boomer, how to paint as well. And his cute little sidekick Ammo the Dachshund is always tagging along close behind. Minnow is the driving force behind Painting Pony and his amazing paintings brighten my life every single day. We hope they make you smile just as much!
