About

Hello, and Welcome to The Paper Woodland!

I'm Emily Hackbart, the owner and operator of The Paper Woodland. I LOVE drawing and painting more than anything, and love to share my work in hopes it will bring a smile to your face! :)

I grew up on a farm in Northern California and spent most of my time with my animal friends, playing with them and drawing them.

My style developed over time, I mostly did more realistic pencil sketches and pen and ink drawings when I was growing up. It wasn't until I went to college that I first tried watercolor. I took a beginning watercolor class and instantly fell in love! It quickly became my favorite medium.

I graduated from college with a BFA in Art, and promptly became a flight attendant, lol. I did a little art here and there for the next several years, but nothing serious. In the meantime I married an amazing man, and had two sweet babies. When I was on maternity leave with my second son, I decided I didn't want to go back to work as a full-time flight attendant, and so The Paper Woodland was born! It has been an amazing, wonderful journey, and besides my family, is my greatest passion in life!

I now live on a big farm in Missouri with my husband and three adorable little boys. Everyday is filled to the brim with animals and farming and little boys, but at night I love nothing more than to sit at my desk and draw and paint little illustrations that are inspired by the life I live.

It is a full, busy life, and I love every minute of it! ♥

I want you to love your experience with The Paper Woodland! So if anything about your order is incorrect, please contact me within 3 business days and we can try to work something out!

Due to the custom nature of my work, I do not accept refunds or exchanges. If something is lost or damaged during shipping, please let me know right away! If something arrives damaged I will try to fix it. A photo of the damaged/flawed item will be requested. A new print will be sent to replace the damaged one if the above steps are taken within 3 DAYS of receiving the portrait. Thank you!
Payment
I accept Paypal, Direct Checkout, and Etsy gift cards.
Shipping
Custom orders will ship upon completion, after payment.

Domestic orders will be shipped via USPS. Most packages will arrive in 2 to 5 business days from the shipping day.

International orders will be shipped via First Class International. Delivery times vary by destination. Any subsequent customs duties, tariffs, or import taxes are the sole responsibility of the buyer.
Additional policies and FAQs
All purchases are final. Please convo me if you have ANY questions before purchasing.

I want your custom order to be exactly how you envision it! However, in order to keep costs down (because time is money!) you will be limited to 2 sketch revisions. I will sketch your portrait, and send you a scan. You may choose a few SMALL alterations, and I will re-sketch those changes. I will then send you another scan of the changed sketch. You can request a few more small changes, but after that round of re-sketching, any additional re-sketching will cost $10 per re-sketch. Thank you for understanding!

If you would like me to paint a specific detailed logo/shirt/article of clothing, or add a detail that will take a significant amount of extra time such as a different border, there will be an additional charge, that starts at $25. Any additional fees will be discussed before you are charged. Thank you for understanding!

The turn-around times on each listing varies. Please be sure to check the turn-around time, and if you need an item sooner than that, be sure to purchase the rush listing. Feel free to send me a convo to see what my current turn-around times are.

Depending on the number of portraits that I am working on at any given time, the turn-around times are subject to change, and may be longer then stated, ESPECIALLY AROUND HOLIDAYS! Thank you for understanding.

Again, if you MUST have a portrait done by a certain date, I HIGHLY recommend that you purchase the Rush Listing.

I also cannot be responsible for mishaps caused by the Post Office. Once a package leaves my hands, I no longer have ANY control over when it will arrive. Thank you for understanding! :)

I am currently finishing portraits right at the turn-around time, except for pet portraits, which are usually (but not always) done a little earlier. Again, if you really need something by a certain date, please purchase the rush listing. :)
