Announcement   Not a single piece of jewellery is cast but each piece is individually painted with several coats of etch resistant paint, etched in slow acid over many many hours/days where it is constantly inspected and attended to and then blackened with three separate coats of sulfur applied over several days for a unique dark black finish. Each piece takes many days from start to finish and no one else will have a piece exactly like yours. Even when I repeat a design there are differences. Feel free to chat to me about customisation... I am able to etch on the inside of the ring as well so maybe if a special name or date is required I can fit that on the inside of a ring.

About

A Magpie since childhood

The story goes in my family that years ago my aunts and cousins would check themselves and remove any jewellery they happened to be wearing before visiting my parents, otherwise a certain small red-headed female child would sit on their lap and stare at the brooch or necklace or ring or earrings and finger them tentatively and without deviation until the time came when the family relative was ready to leave, when the small child would start scream incessantly until the item of jewellery was given to said same child. That child was me. I've never stopped being a magpie for jewellery and during my career as a set dresser and prop maker for theatre, film and television, I used to enjoy commissioning pieces of jewellery from makers at craft fairs. However, I was always a bit dissatisfied that I couldn't get my exact vision.... which was never the maker's fault.

When I retired from media production in 2002, I finally took up jewellery making as a hobby. I quickly found that what I loved to do most of all was paint my own pictures onto the silver item and etch them in acid. I made myself an expert at this one technique.... refining it and slowing it right down to make it as accurate and detailed as possible. My partner, the Rabbit of our partnership to my Tiger, says you need good eyesight to appreciate my etchings as i work with high powered magnifying glasses in miniature. I love relic and memento mori jewellery and the tiny ornate images portrayed and this is my inspiration.

I don't cast my jewellery. Each piece is a one off. People contact me with their life stories and I paint them onto rings or pendants..... their journeys abroad, their school emblems, their favourite teddy bear..... I combine them into a unique piece. If I cast my jewellery I could never do this..... I love making personal items for people that will have real meaning to them for as long as they live.

The Rabbit and the Tiger jewellery is unique and handmade by me or my partner using sterling silver, fine silver and safety sulfur for patination and definition. Some people may be sensitive to the materials I use such as the copper in sterling silver so, if you are buying for yourself or someone else, please consider this before purchasing. I am happy to accommodate people with allergy problems but please do not expect me to completely remake an item in fine silver for nothing if it turns out that you are allergic to the tiny amount of copper in sterling silver.

Shipping
In stock items ship within three business days of purchase unless stated otherwise. Listings for custom or special orders will state making and shipping times within the listing information or through Etsy conversations during the consultation process. The Rabbit and the Tiger is based in London in the United Kingdom, so it might take a little longer to get to you. International mail generally takes around two weeks to reach its destination. In some cases packages can take a little longer to arrive, particularly for some destinations or in the rare occurrence that they get held up in customs. English domestic mail generally takes a few business days. Once it’s crossed the Post Office counter I’m afraid I can’t control exactly how long it takes to reach you._International Customers - Please note that some countries charge customs, import or other duties e.g. V.A.T for international packages over a certain value. Your local post office should be able to advise you of any relevant duties/fees but do please be aware that these are not included in the purchase or shipping price and are the responsibility of the buyer. If you can't find the relevant information for your country convo me before purchase and we can do some investigating together. I generally use standard air mail for international mail so packages unfortunately aren't trackable but I will provide a refund in the event that an item is damaged or lost during transit (see Refunds and Exchanges below for details). I can arrange for international registered, UK domestic registered post or UK Special Delivery - just drop me a convo with your location and I can let you know the cost. For purchases over $180 I will generally use registered post for International mail which will require the purchaser to sign for their package. For large or bulk orders I will contact the buyer to discuss the most appropriate and safest form of shipping. Please ensure your etsy address is correct as this is the address I will mail to.
Refunds and Exchanges
I know that sometimes it's really hard to appreciate something properly until you have it in your hands. So, if your item (other than custom or specifically commissioned orders*) is not quite what you expected please let me know within two weeks of receiving it and I will arrange to refund the purchase price upon return of the item. I will also provide a refund in the event that an item is damaged or lost during transit. Prior to issuing a refund for damaged items I may ask you to provide a brief description of the damage for insurance purposes. For lost or delayed items: A full refund will be issued to the buyer if an item has not arrived after 30 days have elapsed from the estimated delivery date. The estimated delivery date for international packages is 10 working days from the shipment date. For domestic mail the estimated delivery date is 5 working days from the shipment date. Any other problems or questions, please always feel free to contact me anytime.__*Refunds and exchanges (over and above your statutory rights) are not generally available for custom or commissioned items which are usually pre-approved by the customer prior to sale.
