Every life should be free to have a little color and a little sparkle in it, don’t you think? Welcome to TheRacoonery on Etsy. We are two sisters-in-law who thrive on making an interesting and varied collection of arts and crafts items including (but not limited to) fine art prints and downloads, home goods, handknitted items such as gloves and slouchy beanies and polymer clay jewelry as well as spirit portraits and divination services.

My name is Stephanie and although Chelsea and I are sisters-in-law (our husbands are brothers) we're as close as biological sisters. We both share a love for working with our hands and learning new things. Chelsea likes to upcycle and mix media, while I prefer to use set media and techniques. We love that our store allows us room to be creative and independent by letting us think and work "outside the cubicle". We get our inspirations from each other as well as from family, especially our sons.

I first got the idea for TheRaccoonery in the run-up to Christmas 2012. For reasons that made complete sense at the time, I had decided to knit a hat for every person on our family Christmas list. Since my husband comes from a large family, it turned into a massive undertaking with more than thirty hats to make in just a few months! I made hats every single day, but instead of feeling like it was a chore, I realized that I felt and thought much better with my hands busy and I was actually enjoying myself!

The frenzy of knitting that Christmas got me thinking about starting a small business making hats and other items. Even though I had graduated from law school a couple of years earlier, it had been a long time since I had felt such a purpose in my life. So I did a huge amount of thinking, planning and preparation and, with lots of help from friends and family, I launched TheRaccoonery here on Etsy in March 2013 and at the same time started a blog at TheRacoonery.com. The name comes from the sensation I get from creating things I love; it makes me feel like the smartest raccoon I know!

The experience of running my own business was far more rewarding than anything I could have imagined! I loved that I became part of a customer's Christmas party when I sent them a soft knitted hat, and I became a part of a wedding when I shipped matching earrings for bridesmaids. I wanted to go further and do more so I began adding my art items and Chelsea's jewelry.

We love our shop and the things in it so much, and we hope that you can feel that love when you come here! Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions or to request a custom order and add us to your favorites list so you can find us whenever you're shopping online!

I love anything sparkly, colorful or unique, and I try to bring a little more sparkle into the life of everyone I meet. I finished law school in 2010, but I think better when my hands are busy, so I became a creator rather than a lawyer.

  • Chelsea

    Maker, Designer

Chelsea runs her own event planning company, Chelsea District Ltd. Co., where she specializes in truly unique and eclectic designs. When she's not whipping up beautiful food and decorations, her hands are still busy making beautiful jewelry.
