Makers of pottery and woodwork

The Rogue Artisans is a father - daughter team based out of New Jersey. We make items that are designed to be both beautiful and functional.

Karise, The Rogue Potter: When I was little I loved playing with mud and clay. I remember making mud-pies and dirt pinch pots and ‘firing’ them with a ‘kiln’ made from a stack of loose bricks (no fire involved). In middle school I started using air-dry and oven-fired clays. Finally, in high school, I took a few classes at a local community college and graduated into making real ceramics. Since those first wheel-throwing classes almost a decade ago, I’ve honed my skill at shaping clay, delved into glaze chemistry, and learned the technical aspects of firing a kiln. My current pottery is made from a custom blend of clays, chosen for durability, throw-ability and color. I formulate and mix my own glazes, and their unique colors are made possible by a kiln firing and cooling cycle that took me over a year to perfect. It has taken a lot of practice and experimenting to get to where I am now - and the journey is just beginning. I strive to make pottery that is functional and beautiful, so that you will enjoy using it as much as I enjoy making it.

John, The Rogue Woodworker: My journey in woodworking started more than 28 years ago when, as newlyweds my wife and I decided to replace the siding on our newly purchased house. That project lead to the purchase of a small table saw, and the rest, as they say, is history. Since then, I’ve made countless pieces of furniture for our home. My pieces use simple, clean lines that allow the natural beauty of the wood grain to shine through. I source my wood from a local sawmill that process lumber from wind-fall trees, or trees that needed to be removed due to construction or disease. I use natural and food-safe finishes that are always safe for you, safe for me and safe for the environment. Recently I invested in a laser-engraving machine that allows me to customize any cutting board with a design of your choice. I invite you to look around our site and find something that fits your home.

We’d love to hear from you! So don’t hesitate to e-mail with any questions, or suggestions! And don't forget to connect with us on Facebook and Instagram!

Best Wishes!
Karise and John

Hi! I love playing in the dirt, whether that means making pottery in my home studio, or working in my garden. I hope to one day run a sustainable vegetable farm, for now, I work on various farms and create functional pottery for you to enjoy.

My passion for woodworking started over 28 years ago and has been growing ever since. I never get tired of the suspense of cutting into a slab of wood to reveal the beautiful grain hidden beneath the surface.
