Announcement   ***CURRENT PROCESSING TIMES: 1-3 DAYS***

We are currently only listing what is in-stock right now, and available to ship immediately. :) We have a GREAT selection of customizable superhero play costumes listed now, including some "fancy" custom velcro-backed patches (like bats, cats, fairies, etc.). All of these are ready to ship!

We are ALWAYS excited to discuss custom orders, so please get in touch if you don't see just what you are looking for here.

Please read my 'Policies' section for sizing questions, shipping information, and refunds. These items are handmade, so no two pieces are identical (although we like to think each piece reflects the same high standard of quality construction for durability). Please allow for slight differences from item photos, and do ask us if you have any questions! We love our customers!

The Rowdy Ladybug is at Oglebayfest this weekend, in Wheeling, WV. We've got hooded towels and new, improved decorate-it-yourself superhero sets! Come visit.

About

It all started when a friend asked me to make some party favors...

I began crafting again shortly after my daughter's birth. As a scientist and college professor, I hadn't had much time to keep up with my crafts in the years before the baby arrived. As a new mom, I suddenly needed something to tickle my tired brain. Crafting gave me a wonderful outlet to be creative, relax, and recharge while my busy little girl took her naps-- the process of sewing has always been very "zen" for me!

Each item I sell here started off as something I made for my own daughter or for a friend's child:

... the hooded bath towels began as first birthday presents for young Isadora and Lana, when they had outgrown their infant towels.

... the superhero capes and masks were affordable party favors for Maddy's fifth birthday, so she and her friends could be superheroes and eat cake at their favorite bowling alley.

... the little chairs began with a consignment store find and some wonderfully fluffy red "fur" I sewed into a new slipcover, as a surprise for my daughter.

... the first pocketed shoe rack started as an organizer for my daughter's tiny shoes, and has become a chance for her to "do it myself" when we come home from errands.

Each item I sell has to pass a test: would I buy it myself? would I give it as a gift to a dear friend? is the stitching strong and even? is it cute? I hope you'll agree with me that the answer is "yes." :)

I love new challenges and custom orders-- feel welcome to contact me!

Welcome to The Rowdy Ladybug!

I am a crafter, gardener, and stay at home mom to a beautiful and active little girl. I've been sewing for almost 30 years, and have enjoyed designing and making items for friends, family, and now my own child.

I started The Rowdy Ladybug after making items for friends and neighbors who couldn't find just what they wanted in stores. I believe that all items for children should be not just CUTE, but FUNCTIONAL. Products made for children must be SOFT, DURABLE, washable, and FEEL GOOD against the skin-- and their designs should be simple, classic, and FUN! You'll see that philosophy reflected in the items I create.

If you are looking for something I do not have, or have any suggestions, please feel free to contact me. I will do my best to find what you are looking for!

All fabric items I make are WASHABLE, and fabrics that contain cotton (except towels) have been pre-washed to minimize shrinking. I highly recommend using cold water for the first few washes (just to be safe!) and use a dye-catching sheet to prevent colors from bleeding.

All products are assembled by hand in a SMOKE-FREE home. Some trims may contain small parts, so adult supervision and regular inspection are required to avoid choking hazards.

Please check my "shop announcements" for CURRENT DELIVERY TIMES, especially around the holidays!)

If you are unhappy for any reason, please contact me and we will work out a solution.

Thank you for visiting my shop! :)

We want you to be happy with your purchase! If for any reason we don't meet your expectations, please get in touch right away (within 30 days of delivery). We are happy to accept a return or exchange any items in new and unused condition-- please DO contact us first to help us understand and fix the problem. We cannot, however, return or replace items that are soiled, stained, or have been laundered-- unless the normal use of the item has revealed a defect.

LOST PACKAGES:
All items shipped via Priority Mail include shipping insurance. At the current time, however, our smaller items (like costumes, capes, and masks) are shipped First Class Mail, and do NOT include shipping insurance or a delivery signature.

Please consider requesting shipping insurance (or a delivery signature) at the time of purchase if you have concerns about your item reaching you.

If an item does not reach you, you may request a refund or replacement ONLY if insurance was received. Please allow at least two (2) weeks for your shipment to arrive before contacting me about a lost package.

For custom orders or large orders, we can agree on a 25% non-refundable downpayment, with final payment due after you approve the completed item. You may request photographs before final payment. I will always contact you before canceling an order.

NOTICE: All sales from this shop to Pennsylvania residents are subject to a 6% sales tax.
Shipping
Nearly everything I sell is made to order, so please allow 3-4 weeks for production (on average). The times provided here by Etsy are times until SHIPPING, not delivery. The types of shipping we provide vary by item:

CAPES & MASKS:
These ship via USPS First Class Mail, which is inexpensive but takes 2 days to several weeks depending on time of year and your location. First Class Mail does not include a guaranteed delivery time. First Class Mail is NOT insured.

You may upgrade to Priority Mail at checkout for extra cost. Large orders (over 13 oz) ship via Priority Mail.

TOWELS AND HEAVIER ITEMS:
These ship via USPS Priority Mail; you'll receive a tracking number and automatic insurance up to $50. Priority Mail takes 2-3 days transit time (not including holidays, Sundays, or delays because you are away from home). The USPS does not guarantee delivery times, but in my experience is very reliable.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING is available upon request. I'd be delighted to help you!

Please allow 2-3 days packaging time, even for in stock items. The processing time indicated when you buy is the time required to produce and pack the item, AFTER which it will ship.

RUSH ORDERS are available for an additional shipping and handling cost-- contact me if interested.

*Production and shipping time may vary for large orders or around major holidays*
Additional policies and FAQs
WHAT YOU'RE BUYING AND HOW LONG IT TAKES:
Many of our items are created upon demand, once you place your order. Most are not kept in stock. The photos you see in my store are samples. Tiny details of construction, however, may differ from item to item, and may differ very slightly from the picture. If this is a concern, please contact me to receive a picture before the item is shipped. I construct all items by hand, and take my own photos.

Our construction and shipping times vary with the time of year (holidays become quite busy here), number of orders received, the size of your order (large numbers of items take some time to craft for you!), and whether we have your item in stock. In stock items typically ship in 2-5 days. If we craft an item, it can take 1-8 weeks, depending on the season and our current workload. If you have a specific deadline, please let us know-- we'd love to make it work for you!

CUSTOM ORDERS WELCOME!
I very happily accept custom orders--these are fun for me as well as you! Your custom order may take 4-8 weeks to create (after we agree on the details, and your purchase is completed). The timing depends on the season and the number of orders we have on hand, but you will receive a shipping date before you purchase.

BULK PRICING: is offered for 10 or more IDENTICAL items only. I regret that I can offer only modest discounts. The bulk discount reflects the small amount of time I save when producing a large quantity of similar items, without changes to fabric, design, or thread color.

Thank you for shopping!

PRIVACY, COOKIES & TRACKING TECHNOLOGY:
I use Google Analytics to improve your experience at The Rowdy Ladybug. Etsy makes it possible for sellers to use Google Analytics to record and analyze data: on our visitors, where they came from, and their digital behaviour in our store. All of those reports are "anonymized and aggregate," which means they follow groups of shoppers anonymously--they do not (and cannot) reveal to me any personally identifiable information about you.

Etsy lets you and other shoppers manage your privacy and opt-out of tracking cookies. Read about it here in Etsy's main Privacy Policy: https://www.etsy.com/legal/cookies-and-tracking-technologies

Along with the standard operations in Google Analytics, I use their "Advertising Reporting Features." This gives me anonymized, aggregate reports that include data from any Google advertising cookies that are hanging out in your browser. Again, I cannot access personally identifiable information at any time through these reports.

This information helps me to understand my visitors better as a whole, and to improve the products I offer you, and to keep my shop competitive. Data is stored indefinitely, to help me compare traffic from one year to the next.

You can manage your Google Ad Settings and opt-out from this service here: www.google.com/settings/ads/

INFORMATION I RECEIVE AND RETAIN:
When you order from me, I do receive your contact information (such as your name, email address, postal address, payment information, and product details). You may also choose to provide me with additional personal details (for example, for a custom order) if you contact me directly or use a "message to seller" at checkout.

I keep your address only long enough to ship your package through the United States Postal Service (USPS). I keep a record of your name only to track which item you were sent, in the unlikely event of a product recall. I do not retain email or postal addresses from Etsy customers for marketing, unless you give me permission to do so.

The information you provide me is shared only with Etsy, the shipping carrier (usually USPS), PayPal (if used for checkout and/or shipping labels), and my workshop helpers (e.g. for customized orders) only as absolutely necessary. The records of your transaction only remain accessible to me through Etsy; I do not download or store this information in any form, except as indicated above.

To comply with laws, I may collect, use, retain, and share your information ONLY if I have a good faith belief that it is reasonably necessary to: (a) respond to legal process or to government requests; (b) enforce my agreements, terms and policies; (c) prevent, investigate, and address fraud and other illegal activity, security, or technical issues; or (d) protect the rights, property, and safety of my customers, or others.

I retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide you with my services and as described above in my Privacy Policy. However, I may also be required to retain this information to comply with my legal and regulatory obligations (such as product recalls), to resolve disputes, and to enforce my agreements. I generally keep your data for 7 years.

YOUR RIGHTS:
If you reside in certain territories, including the EU, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal information. While some of these rights apply generally, certain rights apply only in certain limited cases. I describe these rights below:

Access. You may have the right to access and receive a copy of the personal information I hold about you by contacting me using the contact information below.

Change, restrict, delete. You may also have rights to change, restrict my use of, or delete your personal information. Absent exceptional circumstances (like where I am required to store data for legal reasons) I will generally delete your personal information upon request.

Object. You can object to (i) my processing of some of your information based on my legitimate interests and (ii) receiving marketing messages from me after providing your express consent to receive them. In such cases, I will delete your personal information unless I have compelling and legitimate grounds to continue using that information or if it is needed for legal reasons.

Complain. If you reside in the EU and wish to raise a concern about my use of your information (and without prejudice to any other rights you may have), you have the right to do so with your local data protection authority.

Frequently asked questions

Sizing details

CHILDREN'S HOODED TOWEL SIZES:
Most of our hooded towels come in a single size: 39" high x 54" wide (approximately 99 cm x 137 cm). This fits most children well with ample body coverage, from ages 2 through 10. Our towels usually function pretty well by the time children weigh 28-30 lbs (13.5 kg).

On a 36-40" tall child, our hooded towels will be floor-length. For a taller child our towels will be calf- or knee-length but will still keep the child covered and cozy. To check for size, wrap a good-quality standard adult-size bath towel (typically 30" x 54") around the child's neck and shoulders, and imagine a hood added on at the top.

What about towels for infants?

We are happy to make smaller towels for infants by custom order, although you may find that you want to order the standard size. Our towels typically last for over 6 years (as long as we've been producing them), and often the item itself lasts longer than the child's interest in wearing a hooded towel!

Personally, we find that young children grow so quickly that by age 12-18 months they outgrow their infant towels. Our towels may sweep the ground behind them for a short while, but usually function pretty well by the time children are 30 lbs (13.5 kg) or so.

Do you make towels for Adults?

We are happy to make most of our towels in an adult size by custom order. Typically this adds $20-25 to the price for extra materials and labor.

Adult Sizes:
Regular: 68" (150 cm) tall x 59" wide (173 cm)
Extra Large: 68" tall x up to 85" wide (216 cm).

We can adjust the length to be knee, calf, or (for more petite adults) ankle length by request if you provide the adult's height.

These adult sizes require vertical seams in the towel body: a single seam down the center back (for regular size) or two vertical seams (for extra large size). We finish these seams carefully with an overcasting and flat-felling process in order to make them as soft and comfortable as possible.
