Our Story
The Rusty Stone is an artisans store located in Hudson, Ohio that specializes in carved stone products and gifts. The store is family owned and operated by three stone mason brothers: Bob, Dave and Marty Chitester. Their combined 30+ years of production and digital experience has allowed them to bring the art of old-world stone carving back to Northeast Ohio. The brothers love being able to work closely with customers, helping them to find a timeless and unique gift for the person that’s hard to shop for or a memorial to keep lost loved ones close.

Our Products
Most of our stones are quarried in northern Ohio and some are sourced from the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. We make customize natural stones with customers name addresses or whatever the customer wants to have carved in the stone. We also have pre-carved stones that you can buy directly. Welcome stones, stones with scriptures, and stones declaring your colors for your favorite sports teams.

We also create inexpensive, handcrafted memorial stones for loved ones who have passed on. In fact, our design team just finished a memorial for a customer whose grandfather, a Vietnam veteran, had passed away years ago and they had nothing to commemorate their loss. We were able to place an Army logo on the stone as a nod to his years of service.

Photo Slates
You can also just email us a picture straight from your phone and we’ll print the it directly on the slate. The quality is fantastic. These are ready within the hour. Our most popular slate designs are of printed photos of grandchildren given as gifts to grandparents and pet memorials. Many pet memorials on the market today are made of concrete that erodes rather quickly, but the natural rock we use stands the test of time.

Other products that can be customized include indoor/outdoor stone oil candles, granite drink dispensers where a family initial can be carved in the handle and small items for children.

Our Process
When a customer enters the store, they can browse our large stone collection of various shapes and sizes. We have plenty of sample pieces in the store to give them inspiration. All stones are priced to sell and include graphics, text, color and carving so it’s easy to choose one that fits their budget.

Once they’ve found their perfect piece of stone, we take a picture of it and set it up on a large monitor. We then mock up the text, graphics and photos digitally while the customer watches and assists in the design. They get to see first-hand what their stone will look like before they make the decision to purchase. Once the customer gives us the go-ahead, we carve the design in their hand-selected stone so it’s ready to pick up same-day. Many people will pop over to the First & Main area, grab dinner and pick it up on their way home.

All slates come with a stand for hassle-free display on a mantle, side table or surface of your choosing or you can hang them on the wall. This is a fantastic gift or a keepsake.
