Current Yarn Bases:

Dandelion Mohair
Lace weight
50 grams/1.76 oz
459 yards
72% Kid Mohair 28% Silk
Dandelion Mohair is airy and fluffy Kid Mohair combined with silk for added strength and shine. Although it is a lace weight yarn all that fluff creates an ethereal and light fabric at larger gauges than typical lace. It can also be held at the same time as other yarns to give the finished fabric a warm, cozy halo. Wash by hand in cold water and lay flat to dry to preserve the life of your garment.

Alpaca Floof
Lace weight
50 grams/1.76 oz
328 yards
74% Baby Suri Alpaca, 26% Mulberry Silk
Alpaca Floof is fluffy and cloud-like baby Alpaca combined with a Mulberry silk core for added strength and a little shine shine. Although it is a lace weight yarn all that fluff creates an open and light fabric at larger gauges than typical lace weight. Wash by hand in cold water and lay flat to dry to preserve the life of your garment.

Staple Sock
Sock/fingering weight
100 grams/3.5 oz
460 yards
75% Superwash Merino wool/25% Nylon
The yarn base is a 4-ply that is very soft and springy. This yarn is superwash and can be machine washed in cold water on gentle, but it is recommended to wash by hand to preserve the life of your garment. One skein is enough for a pair of adult socks or shawlette.

Shire Singles
Sock/fingering weight
100 grams/3.5 oz
400 yards
100% Superwash Merino wool
The yarn base is made from a beautifully soft superwash Merino wool. It is a singles yarn, meaning that it is made up of one strand of yarn and is not plied. It has a nice, tight twist that makes the yarn feel solid yet still soft and smooth. It makes gorgeous shawls, hats, and garments. For best results hand wash in cool water with gentle wool wash and lay flat to dry.

Pixie Sock
Sock/fingering weight
100 grams/3.5 oz
438 yards
75% Superwash Merino wool/20% Nylon/5% Stellina
This yarn base is 2-ply made of a soft and springy Merino with nylon for added strength and silver Stellina fibers for a bit of sparkle. This yarn is superwash and can be machine washed in cold water on gentle, but it is recommended to wash by hand to preserve the life of your garment. One skein is enough for a pair of adult socks or shawlette.

Yakety Yak Sock
Sock/fingering weight
100g/3.5 oz
437 yards
70% Superwash Merino wool/20% Yak/10% Nylon
This yarn base is 3-ply of a soft and springy Merino with a bit of nylon for added strength and a wonderfully soft and bouncy Yak fiber. The yak is naturally dark colored which gives the undyed yarn a beautiful slightly heathered gray color. This does cause any colorway dyed on this base to be darker. Because of the luxury yak fiber it is recommended to wash finished products by hand and lay flat to dry.

Super Squishy Sport
Sport Weight
100g/3.5 oz
325 yards
100% Superwash Merino wool
This yarn is a 3-ply yarn with all the bounce and softness that comes with Merino. Sport weight is very all purpose and can be used on anything from cushy socks to cozy sweaters. This yarn is superwash and can be machine washed in cold water on gentle, but it is recommended to wash by hand to preserve the life of your garment.

Bliss MCN DK
DK Weight
100 grams/3.5 oz
231yards
80% Superwash Merino/10% Cashmere/10% Nylon
Bliss MCN is a wonderfully soft and squishy 4-ply yarn with a slight cashmere halo. The 10% cashmere content makes the yarn softer and more luxurious than superwash Merino alone and is a joy to work with. Wash by hand in cold water and lay flat to dry to preserve the life of your garment.

Super Squishy Worsted
Worsted Weight
100g/3.5 oz
218 yards
100% Superwash Merino wool
This yarn is a 4-ply yarn with all the bounce and softness that comes with Merino. Worsted is a very standard weight and can be used for pretty much anything. This yarn is superwash and can be machine washed in cold water on gentle, but it is recommended to wash by hand to preserve the life of your garment.

Maizy
Super Bulky - 6 wpi
100 grams/3.5 oz
76 yards
80% Superwash merino wool/20% Nylon
This yarn is a single ply yarn that is deliciously soft and squishy. One skein would be enough for a bulky hat or cowl. Great for instant gratification! Because this yarn is so thick it absorbs dye differently and has a very unique look. It looks to me like it glows. Although this yarn is superwash, I recommend hand washing due to the more delicate nature of single ply yarns.

Hand Dyed Happiness

The Sheepyshire started in 2012 as a small operation running out of my father-in-law's kitchen and has grown into a husband & wife business with a proper dyeing area as of February 2021. We hope to grow enough in order to open up a brick and mortar store so that we may be able to interact more directly with our customers. We both create new colorways, dye, pack, and ship our yarn from Northeast Pennsylvania. Recently I have started to work on designing knitting patterns and have introduced a 100% made in USA yarn (Upstate DK).

Care instructions

Even though superwash wool can go into the washing machine without felting, I recommenced hand washing and laying flat to dry to preserve the life of your finished object. Washers and especially dryers can be very hard on clothes! Use a gentle wool wash and cool water since hot water can cause acid dyes to bleed. Any of my yarns with Mohair, Yak, Cashmere or non-superwash wool should definitely be hand washed since they are not superwash and may felt.

After yarn is dyed

After dyeing the yarn I soak all skeins in cold water with a bit of Dharma's Professional Textile Detergent then rinse with cold water to wash out loose dye. However, some dye may still bleed when washed, but should not effect the color of the yarn/fiber.

Scents/Perfumes

The detergent I use to rinse dyed yarn is unscented. I have to use vinegar to set the colors when dyeing my Pixie Sock base so there may be a very slight scent which will fade with time and washing. All other yarns use citric acid which is unscented. I very rarely use room spray, perfume, or burn candles in my home and never in the room where my yarn is stored. Please be aware if you have allergies I do have a cat and two dogs in my home.
