This Etsy shop is wonderful. Katherine is more than accomodating with whatever you need in the way of yarn. She outdid herself when I wasn't thrilled with the color of some yarn I got --only because it wasn't as bright as I needed --and she surprised me by sending me another skein in the mail, which was the exact bright color I needed. Thank you, Katherine. Beautiful, hand-spun, hand-dyed yarns!!!

About

The Speckled Swan is a family business - each item is handmade by one of us.

Our Etsy business was born from the overflow of items that we enjoyed making for family, friends and for ourselves (you can have only so many wooden bowls, brightly colored batts, shawls, fingerless gloves, scarves, etc.).

We personally create every item in our shop. Each item is inspired by the natural beauty of the rural area where we live, by favorite passages in a book, or by vintage fashions.

My husband has a passion for wood – types and colors and grains and variations of hardness; the same way the girls and I feel about fiber. We love natural fibers - wool, mohair, cotton, alpaca (I have a particular love for upcycling linen clothing, but so far I keep everything I make), and we also enjoy acrylics and nylons for their durability and wonderful textures.

Some of our yarn is handspun from roving (cleaned wool, alpaca, mohair, silk or bamboo) on our Kromski Symphony spinning wheel, and some of our yarn is plied - different yarns spun together to make a unique, bulky, art yarn.

We use top quality materials and methods, so all our items are heirloom quality. We make our items to last, the way we make them for ourselves.
