Trying to get organized, one pouch at a time.

I started making my own bags and purses because the ones I found in stores couldn't stand up to my abuse, and it didn't seem economical to buy a new bag every time mine ripped or wore out. Plus, it was so hard to find exactly what I was looking for. I'd been sewing for years when I decided to try my hand at bags.

At first I wasn't so hot at it. While my bags weren't falling apart, they definitely looked a little like Frankenstein's monster, having been haphazardly thrown together. As time went on, I started using buttons, then snaps, then zippers. I started focusing on organization, and what bags would help me achieve that. I would come home from work and sew and sew and when my friend told me about Etsy I knew I had a place to share what I was creating.

My work space is very "busy." I work out of my bedroom and there are bright walls, lots of books, and fun trinkets everywhere. My desk gets almost no sunlight, so I photograph my bags outside on sunny days. It's in the basement of a raised ranch so I'm sort of secluded, which I like. I can get in the zone and work largely undisturbed for hours.

The Tragic Whale is evolving every day. I buy most of my supplies from other Etsy sellers, I make all my own patterns, and I just recently started using and researching organic fabric. What started as an occasional hobby has essentially become a second job, and I love every minute of it!

I do not insure packages, and therefor there is no way to track them once they leave the United States. If you would like to purchase insurance for your international package (or any package), please send me a message and I can set up a special listing with adjusted shipping fees!
Refunds and Exchanges
I want you to enjoy your bag as much as I enjoyed making it- if not more! But I know this isn't always going to happen. I also know that sometimes, things get lost in the mail.

Scenario 1: You hate it.

Please let me know within 5 business days of receiving your bag. You can send it back! BUT you are responsible for return postage and I will also not refund your initial postage.

Scenario 2: It's lost.

2-A) All domestic orders come with tracking, so we both know where that package ends up. If USPS has marked it as delivered and it's at your mailing address, I ask that you work with me to find it. Ask your mail delivery person. Check with your post office. Did they leave it at the wrong house? Did it get stuck in the back of the truck? Unfortunately, if it's marked as delivered I am not responsible for replacing it or refunding your money. These instances will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

2-B) If it's actually lost in the mail, and is not marked as delivered, I will conduct a USPS investigation. This can take a couple of days, but fear not! I am relentless. If it really is lost, I will replace your order as best I can.

If you are a return customer with a history of delivery problems, I will not issue a refund or a replacement.

In any event, if there is ANY problem with your order, please notify me as soon as possible. Mistakes happen. Humans are human. I'll do everything I can to make it right.
Additional policies and FAQs
It's hard for me to accommodate custom orders because I buy fabric in small pieces and don't always have more of the fabric you're looking for. It also means I have a hard time accommodating large or bulk orders in the same print. Please keep this in mind as I won't be able to fulfill every request I receive. Thank you!

If you are looking for a custom bag made in dimensions I do not offer in my shop, I will gladly work with you to create what you are looking for. Please note, designing a new bag from scratch instead of working with an existing pattern takes more time and the cost of the final product will reflect this.

I do not offer discounts on custom orders, regardless of size or quantity.

Everything listed is made and ready to ship and unless otherwise noted you will receive the item pictured.

I work in a smoke free, pet free home.
