The Well Seasoned Nest ... interesting and useful items for your home, garden, and studio/office.

nest : noun: a structure that birds make to keep their eggs and babies in, as in to build a nest.
1. a place that insects or small animals such as mice make to live in
2. used for referring to a place that is warm, safe, and comfortable
3. a set of similar things of different sizes that fit inside each other, a set of nested tables
season: verb: to improve or enhance the flavor of (food) by adding salt, spices, herbs, or other flavorings.
1. to add zest, piquancy, or interest to
2. to render competent through trial and experience

It all started with a little nest I doodled on a paper napkin while having lunch with my then twenty-something year old son in a little local eatery. We were discussing what I was going to do "with the rest of my life."

Having recently retired from teaching Home Economics to high school students, and not being one to sit still much, my son looked at the nest I had drawn, and said "Why don't you do something you've always wanted to do? Open a little shop, and call it "the nest"." One thing led to another, and, in September of 2001, I did just that, naming it "The Well Seasoned Nest ". The shop was a compendium of wares for the home and garden - it allowed me to indulge in my passion for shopping, be around wonderful things all the time, and "season" the space as if it were my little nest!

Family circumstances led me to close my shop about five years later, and make a move to CT to be closer to aging, ailing parents. I missed my shop, the interaction with customers, creating displays, and more ... the whole retail experience, in fact.

Not long afterward, I discovered Etsy while shopping online for a zippered wallet that needed replacement. One thing led to another, and before long, I was back in retail ... Etsy style! For me, a more personable venue than EBay, and one where I could create my own pace and develop my own style. I was a happy girl, back to having "my well seasoned nest"!

Just like that little bird that flits around, gathering this and that to form a nest and then seasoning it with elements to fit their species - so do I ... to bring you vintage items, display pieces and packaging/supplies to fill your home, garden and studio/office and "season" it just right for you! And ... I love my "job"!

I opened my second Etsy shop some time after, dubbed "nestibles", having gotten into handcrafting items in my studio - of paper, metal, weathered wood, and "found" objects that I re-purpose, upcycle, or assemble into various (funk)tional items.

Most recently, I branched out a bit more with a third Etsy shop, oddbitzandpieces - offering supplies (tidbits of this and that, whatnots, and thingamajigs) for the creative spirit. You never know what might show up there!

Thanks for dropping by - hope you enjoy your visit...
