About

Guinea Pig Wonder Emporium

Hello everyone! My name is Joey Phoenix and I am the photographer, and guinea pig enthusiast responsible for The Wheekly. My other teammates are Val Toukatly (Illustrator) and Chimæric (Designer).

I am also a proud Guinea Pig parent alongside my co-conspirator and muse, Chimæeric.

Make sure you follow us on FACEBOOK at https://www.facebook.com/thewheekly for more up to date posts of cavy happenings, contest announcements, and international guinea pig general adorableness.

I don't know where he got the idea, but one day when we were out on one of our walks he turned to me and said.

"Guinea Pigs"

And I thought that he was crazy.

But we kept walking and i kept thinking to myself, "You know what, it could be fun, and two is such a manageable number..."

After we had read every book in the guinea pig canon and studied every online article related to the subject, we made the journey to MSPCA-Angell in Jamaica Plain, MA. He adopted 2. The process took a while as we had meet and greets with every cavy in the place, and eventually decided on a bonded pair named Cinnamon and Saffron.

Cinnamon was 6 months old, Saffron barely older than a month. The volunteers were uncertain whether Saffron was Cinnamon's daughter, because they had only been at the shelter for a few days and had arrived together. We each held them for a short while, both cavy ladies chattering away the entire time.

This was happiness.

Although he filled out the adoption application and everything went through alright, we couldn't bring them home that day because we were sans vehicle. Fortunately, a couple of days later, one of our dear friends saved the day by driving with us to pick them up.

The next few weeks were lovely. The small SuperPet Cage became a Midwest Guinea Pig Habitat. Then one habitat became two with an assortment of tubes and hutches and adorable food dishes and specialty hay and cavy wonders galore.

Then, as we settled into our routines, we started to notice something interesting . Cinnamon, the elder pig, who when we adopted her was long and lithe beneath a frock of Einstein-inspired fur, was no longer able to fit through her tube. Her special tube, the one that she had previously spent hours curled up inside of, was now too small.

--And Then There Were Six--

You guessed it. Momma pig was pregnant, and growing larger by the minute. One Sunday morning, while all the people were sleeping, four new piggies came into the world and blessed our lives.

As a burgeoning photographer, I would spend the next few months photographing nearly every momentous event in their young lives. Naturally, fascination turned into obsession, and before I knew it I was setting elaborate scenes and scouring thrift stores for small guinea-pig sized props to use in photoshoots.

Now, those photos are available for purchase as UBER ADORBS guinea pig greeting cards and bookmarks. I hope you enjoy them!
