Announcement   If your style is clean and uncluttered, fresh and modern you’ll be right at home.

My primary goal is to make high quality pieces that can be worn with your "good jewelry". The guiding principle is that if I won't wear it, I won't make it. And believe me, I'm VERY picky. Some of my favorite mainstream jewelry and watch designers are Wellendorf, John Hardy, Cartier, Omega and David Yurman. I wear my pieces with theirs and I do it with confidence.

I use only quality components and metals. Genuine gemstones. Handmade lampwork and cane glass beads. Sterling and pure silver wire and finishings. 12 or 14k gold filled wire and finishings and occasionally vermeil which gold-plated sterling silver.

So buy with confidence. Wear it with pride. It looks good on you.

Let's talk METAL!

Lately it's been brought to my attention that folks outside of the jewelry biz are a bit unsure about what the heck we all mean when we say sterling silver, gold filled, silver plated, etc. So here are some definitions to help you better understand the materials I work with. Every item here will be CLEARLY identified with the metal used.

Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925.

Argentium Sterling Silver is a modern sterling silver alloy which modifies the traditional sterling silver alloy (92.5% silver + 7.5% copper) by replacing some of the copper with the metalloid germanium. This results in metal that is more resistant to tarnish and is brighter and more durable due to increased hardness.

Fine silver is 99.9% pure and is very soft and almost never tarnishes.

Gold-filled jewelry is composed of a solid layer of gold bonded with heat and pressure to a base metal such as brass. Some high quality gold-filled pieces have the look, luster, and beauty of 14 karat (58%) gold. By definition, the minimum layer of karat gold in an item stamped GF must equal at least 1/20 the weight of the total item. 1/20 12kt GF is the most common stamp you will find on gold-filled jewelry. 10kt and 14kt are also common karatages. Gold filled items, even with daily wear, can last five to 30 years but will eventually wear through. The gold layer on gold-plated jewelry varies greatly depending on manufacturer, so there is no single, simple comparison. Gold-filled items are 50 to 100,000 times thicker than regular gold plating, and 17 to 25,000 times thicker than heavy gold electroplate (sometimes stamped HGE or HGP).

Gold plating is a method of depositing a thin layer of gold onto the surface of another metal, most often copper or silver, by chemical or electrochemical means. This is not a durable method and jewelry made of gold plated material will eventually wear and the base metal will show through.

Silver plated wire (sometimes called craft wire or Artistic wire which is a brand name) is copper coated with a layer of silver and varies in durability from manufacturer to manufacturer. It is a good medium for inexpensive components and casual jewelry.

I use your information to provide the services you requested and in my legitimate interest to improve my services; and 2) Compliance with the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use. I use your information as necessary to comply with my obligations under the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use.
