Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders
Let's be honest: custom is pretty awesome! Request custom listings through my shop or send me a convo to discuss options. Based on what you would like made, I'll prepare a custom listing for you to purchase or point you toward an existing listing that you can personalize.
PLEASE NOTE: Personalized items take a little longer to make because they are made to order. Please allow about 5 to 7 business days for your personalized order to ship.
Care instructions
Aluminum and stainless steel are low maintenance, skin friendly metals that won't tarnish. Clean, gently with a soft cloth or jewelry polishing cloth.
Most items are finished with a brushed/matte finish, which is better at resisting scratches and is best if you (like me) are hard on your jewelry or plan to wear it while being active. If you find your brushed finish starting to wear, simply use extra fine (#0000) steel wool to lightly brush the piece in one direction.
Polished/shiny finishes are available upon request. These finishes tend to scratch easier and are best for pieces that will be treated with care. Use a very soft cloth or a jewelry cloth to shine it up and remove fingerprints.
Gift wrapping and packaging
All of my items come in kraft gift boxes made of recycled material and are wrapped in reusable blue cotton twine for a simple but beautiful presentation that also protects your purchase during shipping. If you'd like a gift message included, just submit your desired message in the comments when you order, or send me a convo.
I strive to be as environmentally friendly as possible with the materials I use, and I choose to use shipping materials that not only are made of recycled resources but are also recyclable! All of the packaging my jewelry comes in can be reused or recycled! The poly bubble mailer and bubble wrap your product arrives in can be reused or recycled along with plastic grocery bags at most local grocery stores.
Cuff Bracelet Adjustment and Fit
Cuff bracelets are made of a 6-inch metal bar with a 1- to 1 1/4" inch gap that should accommodate most average size wrists. They can be adjusted once, gently and slightly, so that the opening fits snugly over the thinnest part of the wrist. Avoid frequent adjustment that can weaken and damage the metal.
To wear, hold the cuff like a C with the opening facing the thumb side of the wrist you're planning to wear the cuff on. Place one "point" of the cuff between the two tendons on the underside of your wrist (soft part) above your wrist bone. Pivot the cuff around the top of your wrist.
To remove, again place thumb side point between the tendons and reverse the process by pivoting the other point toward the thumb side of your wrist.
Hand Stamping vs. Engraving
All my items are hand stamped, a technique similar to engraving but at the same time quite different. Both techniques create impressions on metal.
I use steel punches, one for each character or design/shape, to layout the words on each piece and strike them one at a time with a hammer to create impressions. Hand stamping is an imperfect art form, and characters often aren't perfectly straight or aligned. It creates a truly unique item every time, and the imperfection is considered part of the technique's appeal.
Engraving is usually done with a computer and a machine to etch characters and designs onto metal. In rare cases it is done by hand using an engraving tool.

2. In your cart, add your personalized details to the box that says "Add a note to ThingsUncommon" before you check out.
3. Do a happy dance!
