About ThistleGlenPottery
I Make Functional Pottery and Stoneware Wearables
I started my shop while living in Berkeley Springs, WV. After designing and constructing two wood fired kilns and making pottery for several years, and selling locally, I decided to open an Etsy shop. Most of my work is functional stoneware fired in the wood kiln two or three times per year but some of the pieces are fired in a small propane fueled kiln which I fire every 6 to 8 weeks as needed. While selling primarily functional pottery at the local farmers market one of the jewelers suggested I consider making some wearable ceramic pieces. After giving it some thought, I recently started making brooches and pendants using both stoneware and porcelain clay bodies. My wife Leigh has become an integral part of my shop by designing the cords for my pendants, selecting the cording material and beads in addition to doing decorative knot work on many of the pieces.

Shop policies
All of my work is made of stoneware or porcelain clays and finished by hand. Most are fired to 2400 degrees F in my wood fueled kiln for 19 to 32 hours. The remainder are fired in a gas kiln. All glazes are food, dishwasher and microwave safe. Domestic ware should not be placed directly on hot stove top burners or under a broiler, nor should they be transferred directly from the refrigerator into a hot oven.
I love making functional pottery intended for everyday use. I hope you find something you like and enjoy it for many years to come!

Shipping
I will ship to addresses in the United States only. ALL packages are shipped via USPS parcel select or priority mail service with tracking. If you request Express shipping or additional insurance, you will be billed separately.

In an effort to prevent damage during transit, pottery must be very carefully packaged with adequate packing material which will result in a container size significantly larger than the piece of pottery. I reuse packing materials such as bubble wrap, Styrofoam peanuts and newsprint.
Additional policies and FAQs
COLORS : Please note that there are often slight color variations between actual glazes and photographic images of those glazes. Also, surfaces of wood and gas fired pottery will often have slight variations in glaze uniformity unlike pottery fired within the controlled environment of an electric kiln.
PENDANTS & BROOCHES: Pendants and brooches are made of a three-dimensional material (clay) and as such have a depth to them in addition to a width and height. They have been stamped while the clay is still pliable and as such, some pieces do not lie totally flat. This three-dimensionality creates interest by providing a surface that responds positively to the applied glazes and the effects of the wood kiln. I've tried to exhibit the profile of each piece through the selection of photo images I've provided. Please keep that in mind when ordering. If you want a flat profile, you may want to look at items made from other materials.
