Supporting my painting habit with affordable art.

Years ago, as a jeweler, I showed and sold in galleries and craft shows, but that was before I became a midwife... and before I had kids. Today I paint with encaustics, squeezing time out of my busy days. I could paint just for myself, but sharing my art makes room for more art at home!

I've been collecting, selling and trading art since I was a teenager. I realized that the Etsy I know as a shopper could also be MY online store! I decided to create small paintings at affordable prices.

Etsy is a wonderful place to start an art collection, and now I'm part of the movement!

About Encaustics -

Encaustic painting uses many techniques including painting layers of molten wax-resin-pigment, fusing with a torch, carving and drawing with tools, adding in papers or found objects, rubbing in pigment sticks, and layering the wax over and over. After a few weeks (and periodically forever) the painting can be buffed with a lint free cloth to bring up a lustrous sheen.

Encaustic painting is an ancient technique which dates to the Greeks. “Encaustic” means to burn- and all encasutic paintings need to be heated to fuse one layer of waxy paint to the ones below. The natural beeswax is archival material. It is water resistant and will not change color, darken, or yellow over time. The only care the paintings require is to be kept out of extreme heat, take care with the edges so as not to crack the wax, and buff with a soft, lint free cloth when dusty or if you want it to shine.
