Absolutely perfect. Sarah worked with me every step of the way to design the piece to fit my space. So happy with the finished product!

This original illustration is beautifully detailed! The artwork that went into it, really makes the piece stand out. Love this quote, gothic by nature and the illustration chosen to go along with this quote is absolutely wonderful, compliments the quote. Can't wait to find a frame for it and display it in my home!

About

"The universe is change; our life is what our thoughts make it." -- Marcus Aurelius

Three Summer Days was born out of a love for the natural world, classic literature, whimsical, detailed art and the ability to say so much with so few words.

My art was something that I shoved to the back burner at a very young age. When I was a child, I drew and painted constantly. I entered art contest after art contest and never won, which led my sweet, little child-brain to deduce this gem: “I’m not winning, so I must not be good at this.”

With that sobering deduction, I forced myself to seek out other avenues to express my creativity. I eventually settled on writing and literature, two things that set my imagination on fire. Throughout my teen years and college, I’d pick up my paints every once in a while and mentally escape for hours. However, I still had myself convinced it was something I “wasn’t good at.”

Fast forward to Fall 2011. After a particularly stressful day, my husband and I settled down on the couch to watch a movie. For no reason, I grabbed my sketchbook and began to draw as the movie played. I looked up at what felt like a moment later and the credits were rolling. What I had drawn was a hand featuring the intricate detail-work that runs rampant in my pieces.

I began to paint and draw again and for the first time in a long time, I began to dream about my artwork. My first and final product concept was to combine two of my great loves, art and literature. I began to experiment and sketch and paint until I composed the pieces you see in my shop today.

I love the emotional and physical freedom my shop provides. I love that I can be at home with my children and not miss anything as they grow. I love working and feeling in my gut, “Yes, this is what I’m supposed to be doing.” It doesn’t really feel like work. Some days, of course, things can get a little tedious, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I love being able to show my children by example that it is possible to be their mother and passionately follow your dreams. I’m so thankful that I can show them other sides of me, the ones that come out in my work: I’m their mother, a bookworm, a lover of nature (who would secretly live in a tree if she could), a silent observer, an artist. Being an artist allows me to feel wholly myself.

Here’s to liberation, art and words!

I love literature quotes, intricate details, coffee (sooo much), buying my books old and used, epic novels/movies and old pianos. My life is without a doubt richly full and blessed.
