Benvenuto nel mio negozio Etsy. Mi chiamo David Melville e sono un paramedico scozzese in pensione con 15 anni di esperienza nella città di Toronto, ex commerciante ed educatore.

Ho iniziato a lavorare il legno quando mi sono trasferito ad Ajax, Ontario, nel 2010, costruendo una libreria per la biblioteca nella mia nuova casa. Lavorando fuori dal garage, sono diventato molto conosciuto nel quartiere e la gente si fermava e mi chiedeva di fare qualcosa di unico per loro.

Ho quindi iniziato a cercare una distrazione dallo stress del mio lavoro. Inizialmente ho pasticciato con progetti in legno più grandi come ponti esterni e librerie interne. Poi ho scoperto la laminazione di legni diversi insieme e ho fatto alcune targhe con numero civico e alcune tavole di formaggi. Il gioco è continuato fino a quando ho scoperto la sega a nastro.

Ora la sega a nastro è l'attrezzo principale nel mio laboratorio ed è quello che uso per tagliare e modellare tutte le mie scatole. Mentre essere autodidatta non è necessariamente una brutta cosa, significa che sto giocando a recuperare il ritardo con tutti i fantastici carpentieri artigianali là fuori. Il mio lavoro comportava lunghe ore in un breve periodo, il che significava che avevo buoni blocchi di tempo libero per andare in officina. Ora mi sono ritirato dall'EMS e sono tornato con la mia famiglia nella mia nativa Scozia. Il mio obiettivo è quello di diventare un falegname hobby a tempo pieno... Vediamo come va a finire 😏

Welcome to my Etsy store. My name is David Melville and I am a Scots-born, retired paramedic with 15 years experience in the city of Toronto, formerly a tradesman and educator.

I began wood working when I moved to Ajax, Ontario, in 2010, building a bookcase for the library in my new home. Working out of the garage, I became well know in the neighborhood and people would stop and ask me to make something unique for them.

I then began looking for a distraction from the stresses of my work. Initially I messed around with larger wooden projects like outdoor decks and indoor bookcases. Then I discovered laminating different woods together and made a few house number plaques and a few cheese boards. The playing around continued until I discovered the bandsaw.

Now the bandsaw is the primary go to tool in my workshop and is what I use to cut and shape all of my boxes. While being self taught is not necessarily a bad thing, it does mean I am playing catchup with all of the amazing craft carpenters out there. My job involved long hours over a short period which meant I had good blocks of time off to potter in the workshop. Now I have retired from EMS and returned with my family to my native Scotland. My aim is to become a full time hobby carpenter... let's see how that plays out 😏
