TinaKiteMillinery's Shop Policies

Thank you for your interest in Tina Kite Millinery. I am always available to answer questions. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need further information or clarification about my pieces, making a payment, shipping, anything! I want you to enjoy your purchase!

About my hats: Each one is unique and one of a kind. I use a variety of straws for spring and summer and often hand dye. For fall and winter I use wool felt and velour felt. I also like to re-purpose vintage hats and turn them into something fantastic.

When I block a hat I use mostly wooden vintage hat blocks from the 30s and 40s. The material has to be wet then pulled over the block, tacked down, and dried for 24-48 hours to take on the shape of the block. I then cut off the material from the block, sew a wire on the brim, place a sweatband on the inside with my label and then go to work on adorning the outside - my favorite part! Each hat takes 7-10 days to finish.
About my sculpted hats:
This process is very unique and the most creative! Once I have a base made, I allow the material to move itself into the shape it desires at that moment. It's an amazing process to experience and each time I make one I learn something new about the material and myself. I use either elastic (black or off white), which is hidden at the back of the head, or a comb to secure in the hair and head. These pieces are very light and should be worn forward and titled dramatically to the side.
Care of hats:
All work is quite fragile. Care for your new hat. by handling with clean. dry hands, and picked up from the brim and not the crown - so save crushing it. If you leave the hat out, be sure to dust off by using a can or air, yes, you read correctly. They are sold at office supplies stores and do a good job. Storing in a hatbox is preferred to keep the hats for generations. But I also recommend having it out so you are moved to wear it often. Most importantly. when not wearing, keep from direct sunlight and moisture. Feathers, straw and ribbon can fade quickly in direct sunlight.
Please note that colors may vary slightly on different computer monitors
