Making a living at my craft

I've always loved fashion and while in High School I could think of nothing more exciting and adventurous than moving to New York City and working in the fashion industry. So that's what I did! I left my home state of Michigan for the Big City. For several years I worked in Merchandising and Management.
But the artistic side of me wasn't fulfilled. If there is anything I love more than fashion, it's history. And when you put history and fashion together, my greatest passion is brought to life. I worked for several years for Eric Winterling Costumes in NYC. There I learned how to sew professionally, make my own patterns, and was able to live the dream of creating historical clothing for Broadway, Opera, and Film.
When I moved back to Michigan to start a family I transferred my knowledge of sewing and fashion from costumes to bridal, and started my own alteration business, specializing in Bridal.
In 2000 I opened my own store front in the charming small town of Elk Rapids, Michigan. My two-part business consisted of clothing alterations, and a women's boutique. Over a period of years the business evolved into a two thriving businesses. The Bridal Tailoress, which consists of my bridal alteration business as well retail sales of bridal accessories, and Tinker Tailor, which consists of general clothing alterations, and retail sales of my own designs which I sell at craft shows and from my studio. My goal this new year of 2021 is to improve my online presence and to build a successful Etsy store.
