So beautiful. I just love your jewelry. Thank you for such lovely creations.
Handmade mexican jewelry and notebooks : Syncretism and experimentation.
The story of my shop is closely related to my own story. When I was a child I liked to play with stamps, stencils and I imagined that I had a Brand. Years later I started to experiment with handmade paper and my first bindings were badly done.I went to some workshops and learned bookbinding and along with my passion for mexican culture I developed a voice in my creations.
Around 2009 I decided to put all my energy to Toshik, which means "our navel" in Nahuatl, the most spoken language in Mexico after spanish. I started doing jewelry as well, as a mean to show mexican syncretism by using religious and prehispanic elements such as seeds. I also use elements that are present in the popular culture, like loteria or wrestlers, and of course, when I travel I get new ideas, inspirations and energy.
I sell the saints bracelets through the Popular Art Museum (MAP) in Mexico City and sometimes at small craft fairs. I always try to explain my customers how the piece they are buying was made and how each piece has a piece of Mexico, as well as a piece of me.
Owner, Creator, Photographer
Everybody asks me if I studied graphic design, but I'm a social psychologist who loves handmade items. When I was 14 I already worked with handmade paper and did some bookbinding. Now I do different bindings, jewelry, artist books, and photography.
