Paid 3/14. Scheduled to ship by 3/16. Seller finally answered me 3/23 said shipped 3/20 & refunded me shipping cost ($2). Item arrived with a single stamp in a letter envelope, postage due I had to pay, postmarked 3/23. Icing on the cake, items broken due to shipping method and lack of bubble wrap/tissue paper/anything. Glad I didn't buy the purse I was wanting from here!

Another wonderful bag! It's perfect for weekend outings. Again, your work is just lovely! And, thank you, too for the wonderful earrings - it was so sweet of you to include them as a birthday surprise! Excellent!!!

About

The Search For the Perfect Bag

I have a confession to make - I have a bit of a fetish. Fairly common among women, the bag fetish can easily take over, and cause a woman to search for years for the perfect bag, while accumulating as many as possible along the way. In my case, I couldn't find the perfect bag, even after my long search, so I set out to make it. I found felted wool to be a fantastic material, being both sturdy and strong, yet soft, luxurious, and lightweight.

Totables started out with my signature felted wool bag, the round the town shoulder bag, but has since expanded into several sizes and styles of felted wool bags and clutches, fabric totes, and textile jewelry. I strive to always produce high-quality, luxurious and unique bags and accessories that will make you stand out in a crowd! I'm always dreaming up new ideas, so keep an eye out for more one-of-a-kind pieces.

Felting Process
A lot of time and work goes into each felted bag. The process starts by crocheting each bag out of wool yarn, anywhere from 4 to 24 hours, depending on the size. The next step is to machine felt the bag, which is done by washing it in hot water and detergent in the washing machine multiple times.

Have you ever accidentally shrunk your favorite wool sweater? That's what happens here, except it's done on purpose! What happens is that the agitation and heat cause the fibers to rub up against each other and they grab on and stick tight together. This means the final product is a much more dense and sturdy fabric than something which is only crocheted. Because of the fibers all grabbing on and holding tight, the felted bag is significantly smaller than it started out, typically shrinking anywhere from 30% to 60%. Different yarns felt differently, so it's always fun to see exactly how it comes out.

Once the bag is fully felted, I shape the bag while it is still wet, let it dry completely, and then add all the finishing touches, like snaps and buttons, handles, and embellishments.
