My Journey

I guarantee that each and every one of you reading this have been asked ”What do you want to be when you grow up?” at some point in your life. I don't know about you, but that question was so much easier to answer when I was a little girl. I wanted to be a dancer, an artist, a lawyer, a graphic designer. I couldn't tell you how many times in the course of my life that my dream has changed. I’m here to tell you that it’s okay to change and to evolve. That journey of life and discovery will eventually lead you down the right path. It is never too late to make any new dream your reality.

My journey to jewelry design, was not a direct path. I worked in graphic design, marketing and in television advertising sales for many years. To be honest, jewelry making was never on my radar of dreams, however it was always a curiosity of mine. Little did I know that one TV sales call at a local jewelry store could change the course of my life. That’s when I saw a sign in his window for silversmith classes. I knew I had to sign up. In September of 2014, I took my first silversmith workshop. I fell in love with the entire process of creating jewelry. I enjoyed the way the saw felt in my hand while cutting silver, covering my hand with sparkling silver dust. Watched with intrigue as the silver would heat up and the solder would run, joining two pieces into one. I became fascinated. I was hooked. I couldn't believe it! I finally found my passion! I wanted to be a jewelry designer.

Jewelry has always been sentimental for me. Certain pieces of jewelry can take me back in time. That first trip to the Black Hills, to the ocean in San Diego, you name it. For me, each piece of jewelry is a memory, a stop on my journey of life. I see turquoise and it reminds me of my mom, Sandy. She used to wear a ring or two on every single finger. I remember admiring them, especially my mom’s turquoise and coral Navajo rings. It's no surprise that the first piece of jewelry I made in my studio, was a turquoise and sterling silver ring for my Mom. It was a gift for her 60th birthday. Every piece of jewelry I create starts with an underlying passion for not only the process but the stones themselves. Each stone has its own journey. Every ring, necklace and pendant I make is a stop on my journey and a piece of my heart and soul. Create your own memories and nostalgic feelings. This jewelry will last well beyond your years. It can be passed down as an heirloom to your loved ones. Feel as I felt when my mother's jewelry was passed down to me. She was so proud. She showed all of her friends and coworkers that ring I made her for her 60th birthday and every other piece of jewelry that I made. In July of 2015, my Mom passed away before she reached her 62nd birthday. My Father, John passed away three months after her. Needless to say, my life was flipped upside down. I found myself at fork in the road of my journey. Everything took on a new meaning. Life is short, way too short to spend it being unhappy in a job I did not love. I knew the one way I could honor my parents was to start living, like really living! To go after my dreams and use my talents. They believed in me and it was time that I started to believe in myself. In January 2016, I decided to take a leap of faith and make that dream a reality. I became a full time jewelry designer.

I urge you to write your story. Climb that mountain. Live your dream. It is never too late to truly believe in yourself. I ask each of you to enjoy your journey of life. From Earth to sky, let your free spirit fly with Tranquil Sky Jewelry.

I've always loved getting my hands dirty. In 2014, I took a silversmithing class out of pure curiosity of how to make a ring. It was then I fell in love with a new craft. Since then I have not looked back. I've been making jewelry ever since.
