Recycled Paper Bead Jewelry Made From Old Book Pages

California, United States

Meet the Owner of TrashyCrafter

Kim Franklin

owner, maker, Photographer

I have been crafting since childhood, my Grandma was a crafter, and would sell at craft shows, so I grew up around that my whole life. She had a craft room my sister and I could be creative in. I was always naturally blessed with an ability to make things, but when I started college I placed crafts on the back burner. In my junior year of college at UCSD I was with my mom at a thrift store and we noticed them throwing away 100's of damaged books, this was my spark. I took them home and wanted to find some useful way to repurpose them. In 3rd grade I had learned how to make paper beads, so it started with that, then lead to making jewelry and art out of them. Now I turn old books into flowers, art work, decoupage images or pages onto furniture frames etc. I have a huge passion for the environment, infact wanted to be an environmental lawyer for years, but finally decided that my way to give back to the world is to inspire people with recycled crafts.
