About

Spoon Rings, Antique Jewelry and Vintage Treasures

Welcome to my shop! I opened Treasure Grotto in April of 2012 with a handful of vintage items and a dream of something special. I’ve always been fascinated with antiques, especially the flowing lines and nature-inspired patterns of the Art Nouveau period. Each piece has a story to tell, having been treasured and passed from one hand to the next for over a hundred years. Using the beautiful floral patterns of the late 1800's and early 1900's I hand craft these antique treasures into rings, pendants and bracelets.

Sterling silver spoons which were once given as gifts, collected as souvenirs and passed down through generations have survived the ravages of time but are often left to sit in drawers or boxes, unseen and unappreciated in today's fast paced world. I transform these spoons into wearable art for today's woman.

The process is delicate because the spoons are often 100 years old, or older, and who knows what they have been through during that time. Using my experience and skills learned in the fine jewelry business, I cut, shape, smooth, and fire each piece to create the jewelry, then finish each one by hand to bring the glow of the antique silver back to life. I only use genuine antique spoons for my jewelry because the quality of the detail and density of the silver is far superior to modern cast silver reproductions. The originals were stamped under high pressure from solid sterling silver bars, hand finished, and made to last a lifetime. Copies just don't measure up in quality since they are lighter, smaller, more porous and subject to cracks and flaws.

By providing details about the original spoon maker and the approximate date the flatware was produced I am able to give my customer a bit of history to go with their jewelry. Often these old pieces are engraved and/or dated since it was common practice to give spoons as gifts for special occasions, and souvenir spoons were very popular collector items. Some American silver manufacturers produced spoons for each state and nearly every major city in the US, and many manufacturers produced elaborate floral collections and sold flower of the month series spoons.

Today these treasures find new life as jewelry from Treasure Grotto in an eco-friendly process that recycles the old silver while preserving the beauty of the original creations. I welcome special orders, so please contact me if you would like something special created just for you! Thank you for visiting Treasure Grotto!

Frequently asked questions

Sizing details

Most spoon rings are adjustable, and the amount they can be adjusted depends on the individual characteristics of the ring - thickness, width, etc. It is best if I size the ring as closely as possible to your desired size for starters and you can adjust from there. Please let me know your requested size at checkout and I will make adjustments for wider bands. If the ring is a gift we can make the ring an average size. I do offer free sizing, so it can always be sized later if needed, just cover shipping.

Care instructions

The best way to care for your sterling silver ring is to wear it often and wash with dish soap as needed. Wearing your silver jewelry will keep it bright. But if it sits for a while and needs to be polished, it is best to use a silver polishing cloth like Sunshine Polishing Cloth. Use the dry cloth to rub away the tarnish leaving the recessed areas dark for contrast. Rinse the ring with dish soap and water afterwards to remove any residue. Keep the cloth dry and it will work long after it has turned black with silver oxidation. Dips and other harsh chemicals will remove the oxidation completely, so are not recommended. If you have accidentally removed or damaged the finish, please contact me and I can walk you through some steps to fix it.

Custom and personalized orders

I welcome all custom orders and requests! if you desire a different finish, for example... no patina at all (no dark areas), lots of patina, a high polished finish, or a matte finish... just ask! I will customize your jewelry however you would like!

Layaway

If you need some time to make a purchase and would like to make payments, please convo me for layaway arrangements. I will work with you to make it easy to match your purchase to your budget.
