For the Love of Dolls!

I fell in love with American Girl dolls when I saw the first advertisement in a Smithsonian Magazine in 1986. After several months of seeing Samantha sitting so properly in the ad, I sent away for a catalog and was hooked. It would be another 10 years before I actually held my 5 year old daughter's first American Girl Doll, Samantha, in my hands. What a beautiful doll! I immediately found an American Girl Doll sewing group on AOL, and then joined a few more on some of the early bulletin board services.

In 1998 one of the women in one of my American Girl Doll groups listed some sets of handmade doll clothes on an ebay auction to raise money for her child's school. I not only purchased one of the sets, but I thought that was such a great idea that I offered to make some doll outfits for the fund-raising auction at my daughter's school the following year. I donated an American Girl Doll and four handmade school-themed outfits with shoes and accessories. The set was given a coveted spot on the live auction and I was amazed as I watched the bidding at the event! I donated a doll and four outfits (different every year) for the next four years, knowing that my work was helping to provide scholarships, teacher bonuses, and other items needed in the school.

When my daughter was in high-school she joined a well regarded choral group that held a small scholarship auction every year. I donated choral uniform doll outfits to the auction for two years, copying the uniforms the children wore for performances. For this project, I copied and used extra child-sized polo shirts to create doll-sized polo shirts complete with the choral group emblem each year, up-cycled uniform khaki trousers for the doll uniform pants, and then designed a formal choral dress pattern that replicated the dress the older girls wore during performances. I was very happy knowing that my work was helping less-fortunate children be able to sing with the choral group!

In 2012 I decided to open a shop on Etsy to sell my doll clothes. I am having a lot of fun in my studio creating beautiful outfits. I now have a legitimate excuse to purchase fabric and play with dolls!

I welcome custom orders and would love to create something beautiful for your dolls that you don’t see ready-made in my shop. We will work together to agree upon a final project design, materials to be used, and estimated completion date. I will invoice you with our agreed upon custom price, and will begin creating your order as soon as full payment is received.
All ready-made listing purchases paid with Paypal and Etsy instant payments or gift cards will be shipped next business day or sooner using US Postal Service first class mail or Priority Mail (for shipments weighing over 13 ounces). If payment is made with Paypal e-checks, I will hold your order until Paypal notifies me that the payment has cleared and advises me to ship your package.

I carefully wrap all doll outfits in a new white gift box with white tissue paper (to prevent color bleeding) and ship first class in a padded bubble envelope. I realize that you are looking forward to receiving your order, so I include tracking information on all shipped packages. I will send you an email when I ship along with the tracking information so that you will have an estimate of delivery. If your total purchase is over $50 (fifty U.S. Dollars) I will include shipping insurance at no additional charge to you. If you are shipping to an address outside of the United States any custom charges will be your responsibility.
