Livingston, Michigan 10 Sales On Etsy since 2012

Announcement   Saulteaux has reopened, and is adding new items weekly as they are created.

The name of the shop is described here:The Saulteaux are a branch of the Ojibwe nations. They are sometimes called the Anihšināpē (Anishinaabe). Saulteaux is a French term meaning "people of the rapids," referring to their former location in the area of Sault Ste. Marie,Michigan. ( My great grandmother, Eva Silvercloud Boucha was born on a reservation in Naubinway, MI. It is for her that I create.)

My Ojibwe grandmother taught me her language and her art when I was living with her while my mother was recovering from a long illness. While I am not part of a federally recognized tribe, I have honored her memory by continuing in her ways and her practices for the past 50 years.
Each creation is of the highest quality, best natural materials available, and made to last for generations.

About

An Ancient Art For A Modern Time

At age 7, my mother became ill, and I was sent to live with my Native American great grandmother for three summers. In her wisdom, she knew that having my life yanked out from under me, would require something healing. She chose art.

She brought me an old TV table, some paste and some broken dishes, explaining that "sometimes when something gets broken, the best way to mend the pieces is to create something else from them." Ergo-mosaics were born to me.

Over the next three years, I learned bead-work, fine paper-cutting, and many different kinds of mosaic. Healing arts for a broken child.. Disciplines that would take me to many states, and a few countries over the next 40 years, sharing my knowledge and passion with others, that they many find that solace in creating something beautiful in something broken.

My great-grandmother had a saying: "The hand forms, the eye beholds, yet it is the mind that sees.

It is in homage to her that I create and share. Her spirit lives on...
