About

Tribal Crafts is a non-profit organization selling crafts made by the Lakota people of the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota.

Tribal Crafts, Inc. is a non-profit organization based out of the First Congregational Church (FCCOL) of Old Lyme, CT. We sell art, crafts and jewelry made by the Lakota people of the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota. Tribal Crafts was incorporated as a 501 (c) 3 in 1987 by its original founders, Karin Kiem and Ginny Speirs.

Since then, over 300 members and friends of the FCCOL have traveled to the reservation, each visit helping to strengthen the bonds of friendship between our two communities.

The Tribal Crafts mission has always been to affirm and celebrate the beautiful traditional crafts for which the Lakota are known, including jewelry made from porcupine quills, beads, antlers and silver as well as paintings, drums and morning star quilts.

Our dream is to expand into the online marketplace and continue to help support artists living on the reservation. Every dollar goes back into the artists hands, something we are extremely proud of.

We hope you will find something here you love. If you're local and would like to swing by the shop please feel free to shoot us a message, we would love to show you around!

I began traveling to the Cheyenne River Reservation as a child and have continued the annual pilgrimage every year since. There is something amazing and spiritual about the people, the culture and the land that draws me back time and time again.
