Attualmente detengo il titolo di Professore Emerito presso un'università prefettizia nel nord del Giappone. Sono andato in pensione nell'aprile del 2018 e ora vivo a Bangkok, in Thailandia. In precedenza sono stato comproprietario di Triplegem Lapidary a Kathmandu, in Nepal, e viaggio dal 1972.

Compro e vendo turchese e lapislazzuli dalla fine degli anni '60, quando lavoravo come gioielliere e artista di strada a San Francisco. Nel 1972, ho fatto il mio primo viaggio via terra in Asia, fermandomi a Mashhad, in Iran, per acquistare turchese nero a matrice ragnatela estratto vicino a Nishapur e, dopo un anno vissuto in Afghanistan, mi sono recato in Nepal e ho acquistato chili di antiche perle di turchese tibetano a Kathmandu. Negli anni '70 ho acquistato lapislazzuli di qualità da collezione dal governo afghano.

Negli anni '80 ero gemmologo e lapidario, comproprietario della Triple Gem Lapidary a Boudhanath, in Nepal. Una delle nostre specialità era ritagliare perle di turchese tibetano rotte per ricavarne cabochon. Un'altra specialità era il taglio di lapislazzuli di qualità da Tesoro, acquistati dai mujahidin di Ahmad Shah Massoud. In quel periodo collezionavamo e commerciavamo anche tappeti e tessuti dell'Asia centrale, nonché rare perle antiche provenienti da tutta l'Asia centrale.

Questo negozio non fa altro che proseguire una tradizione che dura da oltre 50 anni!

I currently hold Professor Emeritus status from a prefectural university in northern Japan. I retired in April 2018 and now live in Bangkok, Thailand. Previously I was the co-owner of Triplegem Lapidary in Kathmandu, Nepal, and I have been traveling since 1972.

I've been buying and selling turquoise and lapis lazuli since the late 1960s when I was a jeweler/street artist in San Francisco. In 1972, I first traveled overland to Asia, stopping in Mashhad, Iran to purchase black spider-web matrix turquoise mined near Nishapur, and, after a year living in Afghanistan, I traveled to Nepal and purchased kilos of old Tibetan turquoise beads in Kathmandu. In the 1970s I bought treasury-grade lapis lazuli from the government of Afghanistan.

During the 1980s I was a gemologist and lapidary, co-owner of Triple Gem Lapidary in Boudhanath, Nepal. One of our specialties was to recut broken Tibetan turquoise beads into cabochons. Our other specialty was cutting Treasury-grade lapis lazuli, purchased from Ahmad Shah Massoud’s Mujahideen. Central Asian carpets and textiles were also collected and traded during that period, as well as rare antique beads from across Central Asia.

This shop merely continues a more than 50 year old tradition!
