Cute and powerful little totem. Loves to hang out with me. Purchased it with the Ulchi Bear totem necklace. Sweet and protective piece. Both well done!

About

Preserving history through functional art.

I have always had a fascination with the way things used to be done. As a child visiting the reenactment towns and markets so common here in the deep South, I always loved learning about how the Native American tribes and the pioneers and frontiersmen made their lives livable. Later on in my life, this developed into a study of many past peoples, from Paleolithic man through the Vikings and Celts and beyond. Along the way, I learned that the best way to understand these ancient cultures was to experience the way they did things in the most firsthand way possible.

Thus, I became the craftsman I am today through a process of "experimental archeology". I tried my hand at making simple art such as jewelry and reproductions of tools based on artifacts and found imagery from stone carvings, cave paintings and so on. I live my life with one foot rooted firmly in the past, and couldn't be happier about it.

Each item I create is made completely freehand. I believe there is a certain soul to something made without machine precision, so I never use any automation nor any patterns for anything I craft. This is especially true when working with natural materials such as wood and shed deer antler. Each piece is totally and completely unique, and I seek to preserve this natural beauty whenever possible.
