The Beginnings of True Vine Treasures
True Vine Treasures did not start out as a business. It started as a single woman trying to decorate her apartment and give gifts to her family without the money to do either. Stephanie started decorating furniture often times left behind by a previous tenant. In fact, she found her buffet shoved in the bathtub of her last apartment.
When Stephanie and her husband, David, married, he was always encouraging her to start her own business. They originally called it Back Alley Creations, because David was constantly bringing home furniture and window sashes he'd found in some "back alley". They currently have about 20 window sashes being stored in their basement. Stephanie never tried to sell any of the furniture once it was completed. She could always find a place for it in her home. Many window sashes were given as wedding gifts for friends and family. She did list some when she first opened True Vine Treasures, but dreaded shipping them if one ever sold. A couple of years ago Dave, while researching different products online, came across a texture medium that reminded him of a project tried and failed, earlier in the year, by Stephanie. It was a texture medium created, manufactured and sold here in St. Louis, Missouri. Stephanie tried it out and loved it. She originally planned on using it on furniture. The boxes were just something to experiment on, but Christmas was coming. After making a few gifts, and realizing Stephanie's inability to let go of furniture, they decided on keepsake boxes.
Before the shop opened the name needed to change. Most of their items were no longer being found in the back alleys of St. Louis plus they found another fairly established pinball machine company by the same name. They, also, by that time had gone through some trials in their life. True Vine Treasures comes the Bible verse John 15: 1-2.
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful."
It's a reminder that when hurting and/or struggling God may be doing a little pruning to help produce growth and dependence on Him.
Their youngest child, Keira, plans to follow in her mother's footsteps. One evening while David and Stephanie were explaining to her brother the importance of math for those wanting to be an inventor, Keira proudly proclaimed "I don't have to be that smart. I'm gonna do what Mommy does when I grow up!" You will find her items under shop section "Keira's Creations". She has already sold one item!
