Garden art grows next to a chicken coop!

I opened this shop many years ago when my son was little, to help him sell his tiny clay creations. Then it sat quiet. Last summer, with all the time at home, I set up a mosaic and concrete studio in my back yard, under an awning right next to the chicken coop. I had been saving tubs of pretty broken plates, rescued boxes of bathroom tile and rusty bits of metal for a long time, awaiting this moment. It was a great solace to play with color and form, in between sewing thousands of masks (See MasksofLove.org).

I asked for 50 plain paving stones for Mother's Day, and slowly worked my way through them, learning to mosaic as I went: how to cut tile and glass, what adhesives work best, how to grout. Over the summer and fall I laid a colorful path of pavers through my wild and weedy garden. I also learned how to form pots and other shapes in concrete with sand casting, mold making and hand building. Some I decorated with mosaic, others I experimented with painting. I have many more ideas to explore! Some of it may show up here in the future.

Before the pandemic I made my living as an art teacher and a social media manager. I've also run several creative businesses over the years including a hand painted furniture company - Artemis Designs, and a sculpted costume company - Organic Armor (featuring my husband's work, OrganicArmor.com). I'm a long time community arts organizer and an avid volunteer on lots of wonderful projects. I'm excited about this new endeavor and appreciate your interest!
