    About

Oleg Tumasov Fine Art Studio and Gallery in Mountain View, California

We feature the work of Oleg Tumasov, Oliver Michael Robertson and Audrey Lund in this Etsy stop.

    Oleg Tumasov:

My primary goal in teaching art students is to strike a positive balance between the unlimited creation of visual art and formal technical training. This philosophy has developed from teaching diverse students in painting and drawing. I always aim to create an atmosphere for students that offer self-awareness, open ended and experimental expression in addition to a strong emphasis on craft.

My main goals are to help each student develop knowledgeable confidence in their work, professional artistic growth and to provide a foundation for life long learning about art.

The structure of a class can either serve as a catalyst or a block for student’s inspiration, so I work with the class to create a schedule of assignments to keep students motivated. During introductory courses, I believe painting and drawing students should spend the majority of their time creating work in class, ensuring that they develop a basis for thoroughly exploring lines, colors and compositional elements. I strive to create simple, step-by-step systems for teaching basic art concepts, such as portrait, figure drawing, oil painting, mix media, water color and repose (ancient technique repose on metals). I have found that most beginning art students need an emphasis of instruction on observational issues, but I also stress subjective drawing. In class, students receive constructive feedback, widen their scope of creative options as they are provided with access to the right materials, and build the confidence to work independently outside the class.

In each class, from beginning to advance levels, I encourage exploration of theme, genre, style and media and help students navigate successfully towards their individual visions. I strongly encourage the use of a sketchbook for images and ideas to stimulate student’s artistic visions.

It is very useful in today’s seemingly time-accelerated world. It allows artists to record and adeptly identify their own selection of creation motivations.
